I have been playing guitar for about 4-5 months now on an accoustic. Which sounds like crap when you play Blink 182. So I went to my local guitar shop and was looking around and found a guitar. This Black Samick electric was used and was only 60 bucks. I bought that along with a MX10 Crate Amp for 50 bucks. Altogether I spent 165 bucks including the stand and gigbag. I have never heard of Samick or Crate so can someone tell me if these are good brands and if that was a good deal?

I know something about guitars, I play an acoustic and a 12 string, but I don't know much about eletric guitars....
But I googled for a Samick, found that they range from 169-245 american dollars in some places, so I'd think its a good deal
EDIT: Found some others at 260....

I found that they are the largest MANUFACTURER of guitars, and that they produce Fenders and Gibsons, so I am guessing that they are high quality.

Mmkay ...
I know guitars.
First of all, the truest mark of any guitar player is how well they play an accoustic. Fuck "Blink 182" ... who gives a shit how well you do their stuff ... after all, it's already been done ... by Blink 182!
My baby is a 1964 Gibson Dove named Juanita - some of you may have seen her in the NS Player Pics thread - and I need nothing else.
Jam that accoustic. Save some money, buy a decent Martin or Gibson, and keep it for life. The sound only improves with age.
Some helpful hints on accoustic, though:
1] If you smoke, tap some ashes in the hole. The ashes will keep out moisture. If you don't smoke, ask a smoker to tap their ashes in there every now and then!
2] Buy gun oil and make it your friend! That little piece of wood where the pegs go in the little holes that hold the strings in place (technical name left out for guitar newbies) is, well, WOOD! Every time you replace your strings, give that piece of wood a good soaking in oil. I use gun oil on that and olive (YES, OLIVE) oil on the fret board.
3] Replace your strings every 2 months whether you think they need it or not.
4] Always use the same brand/style of strings on your accoustic! If your accoustic is used to Martin Jazz Guage, don't suddenly switch to Markley Light Guage. Trust me ... your guitar will live longer. If you want to try different strings, go buy a different guitar. I own 14 different accoustics that have been collected over 16 years ... each one is unique.
5] Name your guitar. It helps. Believe me.
I guess that's all I got for now.

Really? Awesome, that must mean I'm pretty good! My current job is playing guitar at a pub for 100 a night, around 150 including tips! I'm trying to see if I can switch to Fridays, their busiest night, but they got some guy Norman playing, but I can change that *shifty eyes*...the bastard....;)

Really?
Yes ... really. :D
No joking.
Anyone can slap their face on electrically enhanced strings and make some sort of noise that sound "original", but when you're on an accoustic, you actually have to know how to play and everyone hears every little mistake you make.
If you can jam accoustic with the big boys, then you *are* a guitarist.
All I have to say to that is : Kudos ... come sit in with me and we'll make a million bucks! :D
For those of you who doubt: I am a musician, I make my living on payola from record companies for songs I've done and pieces of music I've written; everything I've ever written has been written on Juanita.
I know what I'm talking about (yeah, rare, I know, but this time it's true!). :D

The best musician and songwriter I have ever met or heard of is my father....He's written a shitload of songs and sings and plays guitar all the time and makes hundreds out tips alone, sadly he's never tried to make it big...I'd be leaving the high life by now if did...
He is my inspiration though, and he got my started on guitar when I was 9...He thinks similar to you though, about acoustic and all...
Yeah, I agree...If you can play an acoustic well, you can play anything.
Bling Bling world, for a first electric, that Samick will be fine. I bought a Cort X-2 for my first one earlier this year, costing $400 AUD for a left handed model, and even experienced guitarists envy it. I overkilled a little :)
