What do you think would happen if Kerry died before the election?
Like he has a fatal heart attack or was assassinated?

Edwards would get elected president with dean as his running mate.

America would be one shot away from good responsible government for the first time in decades.

Bush wins every state! Kerry's corpse would not decompose for years due to the serious botox injections. No embalming necessary.

Beats me. Although if Bush is anything like Ashcroft, he'll lose to a corpse.

Freakily, I had a dream about this a week or so ago.

lol at the botox comment!

if there is enough time, the dems nominate a new candidate, presumably edwards and a new VP but perhaps it would be hillary clinton with edwards continuing as vp

same if bush were to die, except that cheney would become president immediately. *shudder*

On November 2, the voters in each state vote for a slate of electors. That is not affected by the aliveness of the candidates. If John Kerry dies, the election will continue as usual. If the electors nominated by John Kerry win a majority on election day, it's up to them to decide who to vote for. The Democratic Party leadership would probably tell the electors to vote for John Edwards for president and Richard Gephardt for vice president

That would be up to the Democratic Party.

John Kerry would still win (Weekend at Bernies anyone? its not like all presidents aren't puppets anyway) and the secret service would be at your doorstep.

It would be better than Halliburton Cheney. I just don't like an oil company being that close to the top office in the USA. It makes me uneasy.

If I remember correctly, it has been 19 years since I was in high school, they would nominate the 1st runner up in the primary's and he would then run as president with his choice of vice president. But seeing how long it has been since I was in school I could remember that wrong. The Democratic party just nominating whoever they wanted isn't consistent with what the voters said in the primary elections.

Umm... Cheney is not involved in that anymore. (http://www.factcheck.org/article261.html)

Something like this already happened. Minnesota senator-D Paul Wellstone died in a plane crash just days before the election. Democrats replace him with Mondale. Some accuse Bush of an assassination. Then, at the public memorial service that was aired on TV, they turn it into a political rally and leetch the airtime that was given to them for the memorial. This gets some people angry including all of the local tv stations. Republican Norm Coleman took the election by 2-5%. So if something like Kerry dying does happen, I bet it would be utter chaos after that for a long time.

While Cheney doesn't get any money for it, hes still loyal to Halliburton, which means he can make his puppet (George W. Bush) do stuff in favor of Halliburton.

Pantylvania is exactly right--Kerry's name wouldn't be removed from the ballot because it's already too late to do it in most states--early balloting has either started or is about to start. So people would still vote for Kerry, and assuming the Kerry/Edwards ticket wins, I imagine Edwards would be sworn in as Vice-President first, and then would assume the Presidency. He'd get to choose his own VP, with the advice and consent of the Senate.

And by the way, Howard Dean would be an excellent choice for VP in that unlikely circumstance.

And it doesn't bother you that a guy that was the CEO for an oil company becomes Vice President, and suddenly that company gets dozens of multi-billion dollar no-bid contracts?

It doesn't bother you that an oil guy has secret meetings with Enron and refuses to discuss what went on in those meetings because it would force him to reveal his energy strategy?

It doesn't bother you that the former oil man's entire energy policy has been to just buy more oil?

Because even if Cheney isn't getting kickbacks from Haliburton, these things all still bother me.
