Why "Lefties" But No "Righties?"

Ok, so, it's okay to call uber-liberals "lefties," but, why hasn't the term "righties" taken the same stance for uber-conservatives?

Is it just that most conservatives are already on the uber-side of the political spectrum, and as such, aren't a tiny sect of the conservative spectrum?

That's my theory.

It's because being left is considered "uncool". Damn wrong philosophy in my mind, but its the truth.

It's because "wing-nut" describes them so much better. :D

So I am on the "über-side" of the political spectrum? You can call me a "righty" if you like even though I am only slightly right of centre. I will wear the badge with honour! :)

lol. No, I mean the extreme right-wingers, those that are so far right they can't see the light of day. Several NSers come to mind - not you - but I can't say the names for fear of flamebait. ;)

Its Deutschland actually, if you are going to label people, get the label right. I disagree with your stereotype though.

Righties have much more damning names. "Fascist" or "racist" or "fanatic" and so on. Lefties just tend to generally be nastier.

A friend of mine has that in his nation name. He knows several very right wing posters with that in thier names. Of course, i'm just stereotyping. It may not apply to all, but its a generalization. Dont take it personally

But lefties are also called "commies". That's a bit damning, well, at least in america it is, to be called a communist.

Yes, we definitely hate Communists in America, even though there's still a political party affiliated with that name.

You are in the wrong frame of mind - it is not left-right it is right-wrong.

Lefties didn't want to call themselves 'wrongies' for obvious reasons - and for that same reason they don't call conservatives 'righties' - which could imply 'right-ness'

Yeah, but more like anyone whose name contains "United Front", "Supremacy" or "Fascist".

Hmmm.... It's not that the term "righty" isn't used. It's just that it's used less:
Google came back with 7,410 hits for righty, conservative and 86,900 for lefty, liberal (And 804 for rightie, conservative and 13,700 for leftie, liberal).

As for your suggestion that the right tends to be more radical, I'd say you have that wrong. I'd say extremeism and radicalism seem to exist in equaly parts on either side.

But that doesn't help explain the anomoly of the predominance of lefty over righty. So I really don't have a good answer. :)

But "lefties" didn't come up with the namesake? Neoconservatives did.
