U.S. Elections Nov. 2004

Please read this post CAREFULLY before replying. Thank you.

All right, the election is coming up very quickly, and being a good student of my Government professor, I want to know as much as I can about all the cadidates. Not just the presidential ones.

So, we know there's Bush, Kerry, and Nader, but who else is there? If there's anyone else at all?

And what about the Senate and House of Representative candidates? I know those are state-subjective, and I live in Texas. Does anyone know who's up for those seats, if anyone is?

Anyways, I thought this thread could be used to gather that information, even if it's only the names of the candidates. There are many erudite and knowledgeable people here on these forums, and some of you must know.

Thanks ahead of time. ^.^

There are a few more presidential candidates, such as Badnarik (libertarian) and Peroutka (constitution), and a number of little known ones whose names I don't know. I know you can learn all about Badnarik at www.barnarik.org, and the Constitution party platform is basically an extreme right-wing Christian fundamentalist one (very scary stuff).

Going into depth about Badnarik and Libertarians:

In a nutshell they are liberal on social issues and conservative on economic issues.

They also advocate a hands-off apporach to government in the people's lives, and privatization of some government services (like education - this is the one part I disagree with the Libert. platform with; our Constitution garuntees us the right to an education so therefore the govt must still provide free public education)

I am pretty sure there are no Senate races going on in texas right now, but I bet the house ones are. (every two years) But not being a texan, I have no clue who they are. Go search for your state election board, they might tell you.

Also, there are probably state senate/house seats up for election as well. And maybe even some judges. But once again, this isn't the best place to look for those kind of things since this is not a texas focused forum.

I'd much prefer if everyone put up the information on who was running for what in their own states as well. Just because I'm looking for Texas stuff doesn't mean anyone else is, but if someone is wondering about their own state they might find the info here.

So, this thread is open to all election personnel informantion from wherever in the U.S. Heh, maybe it'll even get stickied for later elections if we keep providing informantion. One-stop voting. :D

Oh, well in *that* case I *can* provide some information. :P

The biggest race in Oklahoma right now is the Carson/Coburn Senate race for Nickles' vacant seat. They are within a percentage point or two from each other in the polls, and it could go either way. Carson is a conservative democrat who tends to represent what his constitiency wants, and Coburn is an extreme fiscal conservative who tends to stick to his values of cutting expenditures and encouraging fiscal responsibility.

A complete list of everything that will be on the ballot, including state questions, can be found here:

There's usually around 30 to 35 people running for President every term, but the media only focuses on the two parties because the media is controlled by those two parties.

Wow, look what I found...

Vote-Smart.Org (http://www.vote-smart.org/)

You just have to find out what your full zip code is and it tells you current officials and the candidates for your area.

Of course, information on the candidates is still appreciated. Information is always appreciated. :)

I think I'm disturbed to discover that neither Bush nor Kerry took the NPAT (a test that gives you the candidate's issue positions). The only mainstream presidential candidate that has is the Libertarian one, and some of his answers worry me... Anybody know where I can find a record of their stances (both claims and actualities)? Since it looks like it really is going to fall to the two of them...

Libertarianism is all good, even if Badnarik takes it to an extreme

Sorry guy. I'm just a foreigner... but since I work in an uni too... lemme ask you some questions.
1. Your professor has to ask students who is running...? As if you didn't know... already in the uni....?
2. "Not just the presidential ones". Isn't this the presidential elections?
Thank you in advance.

Probably the second-or-third most important race in america is actually happening in texas. It's the District 22 election between Tom Delay(R) and Richard Morrison(D). As you should know, DeLay is the house majority leader, and probably the most powerful man in the legislative branch. However, the locals of District 22 have been getting increasingly pissed at him, and the whole scandal thing, which I may link to later, just google "Tom DeLay Scandal".

"Major news outlet website"? You want me to believe what I see on TV? No, thank you. I'm aware that they're all just as biased as everyone else is, in their own ways. That's something else that disturbs me, in fact. I'd much rather have consistent documented reports than what a news anchor says.

I don't doubt it, but the extreme part is where I cringe. I don't agree with a few of his views, but I don't agree with a few of the other candidates' views, either.

Man, this "choosing the lesser of the evils" bit sucks donkey balls. :headbang:

No no no! The other major race is in South Dakota Between Thune and Daschel with Daschel being the Senate Minority Leader.

1) No, he was my professor in high school... We always called him a professor because he also taught our Psychology class and holds at least 3 doctorates (I could be wrong... I do know he has several degrees). And since high school for me was, what, 2-3 years ago? I'm a little out of the loop. *sheepish*

2) Actually, they combine quite a few elections into the presidential one, depending on what's coming up. Mostly major state elections, but there are usually a few local ones as well. Killing birds with stones and all that. :D

And I think I'm in District 23... Darn, I have to miss that? o.o I weep. ;.;

You might check out that Vote-Smart.Org. They've got a lot of information, but you might have to BS a zip code, since it's U.S. only (I think).
