"Why is there an <INSERT> key?" and other things to gripe about!

Why is there an insert key? It just writes over things when I don't need it to, especially when I'm writing programs. I'm seriously considering removing it from my keyboard. Does anyone know that way you can re-cast the key so it does something more useful?

yeah. i hate that key.
alternate ways to use it?
give it to the needy!
make it a necklace!
exchange it with the F6 key! (that one's just as useless)

Repaint it to be the <ANY> key, or the PANIC!!! button.

i don't know, but maybe it's that "any key" computers talk about when they say "press any key"

For inserting things. Into other things.

I use shift-insert and ctrl-insert for copying and pasting, so it serves a purpose as far as I'm concerned.

When you have to backtrack in Word for example, click before some text and start typing. The new type erases your previous work, so press insert to "insert" the new text before the previous writing. Quite useful really.
