Smooshed.

Yesterday afternoon, after a particularly nasty tackle while playing football in the rain(what can I say? Mud is my friend.) I got my head smooshed. My friend, the tackler fell with all his weight onto my head with his knee.

After a few minutes, I actually kept playing. But about half-an-hour later, as the damage began to get past the adrenalin, we realized that I was pretty messed up. Total damage?

I have a pleasant black eye, about half-shut.
A chipped tooth and a cracked tooth(I'm thinking of having them replaced with big gold Teef.)
And an addled brain(minor concussion). Fortunately, addling my brain seems to have had little effect. ;)

But let that be a lesson to you, kids: Always play on soft ground. If it had been artificial turf, the damage probably would've been a lot worse.

Helmet? Bah! I've been hit in the head loads of times and I'm completely fine. :D

Oh dear. :(

I'm glad you feel somewhat okay. Too bad it's not closer to Halloween, you could put a black eyepatch over your eye. :p

Earlier on today I was, helpfully, trying not to get in the way of my friend's video gameage and kind of dived in front of the TV...smashing my head into a protuding bit of wall.

Still feel a bit woozy....

But getting 'smooshed' sounds worse.

It sucks being on the soomshed end, but I have to tell you that what ever happens to you, is all forgoten when you are the smoosher. I cracked a kids neck cause i elbowed him in the neck. Then he landed in this huge ass pile of dog crap so I laughed so hard till I was suspended.

The dog crap part was funny. Shattered spines are no fun. But unless I had x-ray vision, I probably would've laughed too until I found out.

For some reason, I would not be surprised if LG has had such a thing happen to him.

Been there, done that. I've had the same thing as what happened to my head happen to my bollocks(Yay, UK for making that word!). People fallong on your groin knee-first is highly overrated.

Indeed. Nothing says, "Time to pack it in early' like a concussion.

Thats a good thing.

Careful. I got amnesia from a football hit. Three days of my memory...tottally gone. Wierd as hell (especially when your memory is first coming back and the only thing you remember is that you can't remember things), really sucks.

I once got smooshed this way playing football on a tennis court and I got a concussion and 2 black eyes but my teeth are ok--except for a chip on my left front tooth

I got really fucked up from doing rugby, a number 8 (I'm a small winger) Dumped me from the side, his boot caught me in the eye, I was pritty winded, then of course in the ruck that formed, I got stamped on the head(The guy got sent off), and kick a few more times before finally getting out of the ruck, I had to go off the feild, and to hospital with a broken cheakbone, black eye and concussion.

Over the years, despite a rather alarming amount of abuse(nobody was more surprised I could have a kid than me), I've only been to the doctor twice due to trauma to 'the boys'. Once in high school, due to a hazing incident in my freshman year, and once in college due to a psychopathic brother of an equally psychopathic ex-girlfriend. Both times, I was luckily intact.

I had a similar incident, about 4 years ago now. I was going in for the tackle, and a friend didnt see me, and we ran at full force into eachother, colliding heads in the process.

We got up, and it was like "You okay? sorry" "Yeah, i'm alright." "HOLY SHIT!!!" "What?" *touches face* "HOLY SHIT!!!!"

I had a massive depression in the front of my head (it looked and felt massive. It wasn't really that bad, but the swelling made it look like i smashed my skull...but i've never felt something as disgusting in my life...*shudder*) and my right eye swelled shut in about a minute. Wish I had a picture. It looked like i'd been hit in the skull with a hammer.

If i was running just a little bit faster, my skull might have been totally smashed. My right eyebrow ridge is somewhere from 1/3 to 1/4 gone (pushed in or shattered, some minor nerve damage...it tingles when i put pressure on it) , but everything else is OK and you cant notice it, fortunately. No brain damage either. Or maybe. But then again, i've always been deranged. :p

But it made me wake up and realise that yes, I really am allergic to sports.

KANABIA: Don't even want to think about that! If you follow baseball maybe you'll remember have seen a nasty collision by Red Sox players Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez. With the benefit of slow motion we got to see their heads connect over and over! Nasty.

Take care of yourself please, LG (and others).

On the topic of sports related injuries, the worst I've had is last summer when I sprained my left knee pretty nastily - in bed - with my girlfriend. The worst part is I don't know how it happened. I woke up in the am, and it was killing me. :( :D :D

Well, her psychopathic brother put me in the hospital. Like, full-on in the hospital. Broken ribs, concussion and severely bruised testicles. I think what pissed her off was my decision to press charges. She responded by throwing a cinderblock through my car's windshield.

Now, I did my share of damage to him in that fight too, and because of that, I ended up not pressing charges. Though, I decided that it would be best if I severed all contact with that particular family. Her brother actually tried to destroy my testicles. For a very scary time until the doctor reassured me, I thought he succeeded.

The problem with playing in soft ground is that the dirt and grass don't taste so good when you are tackled violently from behind!!

BTW, I hope you survive your smooshing!!

I don't approve of helmets. It's because of helmets that professional football players had to wear all the other armor. It's a natural progression. After a few nasty concussions, they started wearing helmets. Then people started getting rammed by hard helmeted heads. So they needed more padding elsewhere.

I also don't approve of protective cups. Especially on other people. :D
