Bet you are thinking.... "THIS IS NEWS?!"

Aparently so!

With everything going on in Iraq, all of the bombings attributed to him, all of the beheadings attributed to him, with all the times GW and Co. have used Zarqawi's name as the face of evil in the middle east, and even invoked his name and pressence in Iraq as one of the supposed reasons that Saddam was a threat that needed going to war with, you would think that his being a terrorist was a given....

Aparently it wasn't.

You see - his group finally got added to the official Washington list of terrorist groups..... TODAY (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20041015/wl_mideast_afp/us_iraq_zarqawi&cid=1514&ncid=1480)

"The Secretary of State has concluded that there is a sufficient factual basis to find that the relevant circumstances (for the designation) exist with respect to Jam'at al Tawhid wa'al-Jihad," the State Department said in a notice in the Federal Register.

"Therefore, effective October 15, 2004, the Secretary of State hereby designates that organization as a foreign terrorist organization," it said.

No shit sherlock!

And in true fashion, they have decided to go after him with that most deadly weapon in their arsenal...

... yes - they have imposed sanctions on him.

Sanctions?!

Gee - I'll bet THAT has him quivering in his boots...

Yeah, yesterday, the British government announced they were so digusted, they were going to freeze his assets in the UK.

If I say that the Bush administration is incompetent again I'll owe someone a thousand dollars, so I wont say it. :p

What I will say though is that I think it's a matter of recognizing his terrorist cell group. Previously he was linked to Ansar Al-Islam and Al Qaeda, but it looks like he's been operating more or less autonomously from those groups. (although from my understanding Al Qaeda is just a bunch of terrorist groups operating more or less together so these distinctions get sort of murky. )

Yeah but still...

...he and his guys hold a British citizen for three weeks and then brutally decapitate him on video. And several days after the murder, the British government decides, "Hey, here's an idea, let's freeze his bank accounts!"

*Claps slowly*

He and his group have been cited as claiming responsibility for almost every hostage beheading that has occured over the past several months. To finally take some action - and to make it such a lame one is just..... lame.

Does anyone think that he actually HAS any assets in the US or GB?

Maybe an old locker at whichever London university he attended...unless I'm confusing him with someone else, but I do believe he was educated in the UK at some point.
