Because he looks like Mr Sheen and Australians respect that in a leader...

Hahahaha.

If only it were true.

I think he won because a) the most informed people are the ones who agree with his policies of keeping the money with the wealthy (trickle-down-effect my ARSE). And b) those that aren't informed are easily swayed by political ads and propaganda.

Oh well, it's not like I'll even get INTO uni (low self-esteem talking). So, no need to worry about insane HECs fees! Hurrah!

Want to know the real reason John Howard won!!!!!

Believe it or not because more Australians voted for the Coalition (Liberals/Nationals) than for Labor/Greens.

Care to argue that fact anyone????

I would argue with it considering all this crazy preference system BS.

HaHa. Whats that trickling down from your arse? Oh It's money.

Oh I don't doubt that. But I'm saying people voted for him because he looks like Mr Sheen.

And do keep in mind Labour had quite a few seats on primary, that they lost because of preferences.

Mr. Sheen in Britain looks like a British WW1 fighter pilot:

Ah, Rotovia... the Philip Adamsesque delusions have already worked their magic.

Let's review, shall we?

John Howard won, because the majority of the so-called 'progressives' have little contact with the real people. Thus, while they were blathering on about trees, and tricking that prize-idiot Latham into blathering with them, Howard stole the unions.

One can only hope that Howard's next move is to have the progressives sent to labour camps in the desert. As for me, and the rest of the Right-Wing intelligentsia, I have but one thing to say to you.

BOO-YAH KA SHA!

a) the most informed people are the ones who agree with his policies of keeping the money with the wealthy (trickle-down-effect my ARSE).

heh trickle down does work, the problem with america's implementation is they targetted income earners as well. Howard targets small businesses primarily; very few small business owners could be considered "wealthy", most of them are middle class.

And b) those that aren't informed are easily swayed by political ads and propaganda.

You don't really lose an election in Australia unless the economy tanks, no point fixing what isn't broken is probably the best way to describe Australian voting patterns.

Oh well, it's not like I'll even get INTO uni (low self-esteem talking). So, no need to worry about insane HECs fees!

you'll get in, but it's not called hecs anymore ;) commonwealth somethingorother.

Actually, yeah.

Total vote count doesn't matter, it's individual seats. Even if a majority voted labor and their total vote was higher, but the Lib/Nat coalition won a majority of seats, especially malapportioned ones in the country and tasmania, they would win the election. It's happened before.

SO THERE. :p :D

So the coalition gaining control of the Senate doesn't matter? How silly of me to think otherwise...

The Senate doesn't affect who is Prime Minister. At least by tradition, anyway. It could be changed, but I was talking House of Reps.

It does matter of course, but we'd still have PM Sheen if everyone voted, say, green or family first in the senate.
