The music on CDs I own is only stuff that you can't buy in the store...like the Philly Element show...

Also, there is nothing wrong with Modest Mouse.

Here's something to try and track down - Morgan Fisher (one time keyboard player for Mott the Hoople) recorded an LP in 1979 on a 4 track recorder as a spoof of bizarre US punk compilations which were coming out around that time documenting the nascent music scenes that were springing up in unexpected locations. The LP was marketed under the title Hybrid Kids and claimed to be such a compilation featuring the exciting and experimental sounds of the Peabody, Kansas scene. In fact it was all the work of Fisher. Amongst such incredible delights as no age covers of You've Lost That Loving Feeling (sounding like the Residents on a particularly twisted day) and God Save The Lean/Pretty Bacon (God Save The Queen/Pretty Vacant) sung in Pinky and Perky voices (imagine the Chipmunks records that had their vocals sung through cheap and nasty vocoders and pitchshifters if you don't get that reference) you will find his true masterpiece:

Jah Wurzel - Wuthering Heights

Imagine Jah Wobble smashed out of his head on cheap and nasty drugs playing a slightly out of kilter heavy dub reggae version of the Kate Bush song, but with vocals supplied by the Wurzels. It is truely magnificent, and quite incredible for the work of one person on a dodgy 4 track.

One of the finest songs to grace my record collection. Beg, steal or borrow a copy of it from somewhere and tell me it is not one of the finest creations you have ever heard.

More info on this amazing record can be found here:

I'd love to get my hands on that, but right now I'm just trawling the second-hand stores for stuff to replace what was lost in a burglary a couple of months back. *sigh*

Actually, did you know that Fat Les did a reggae song? It starts out sounding like really heavy roots reggae, and then he starts in with "'Cause I'm a 'omosexual. I think he did it under the name of DJ Sexboots or something like that. It was funny as hell.

Right now I'm listening to The Brand New Heavies, because I need to chill out. Last night I was listening to the new Badly Drawn Boy album. Everything he does is excellent.

Ooh...let's see...I might have a link here, and one that doesn't violate RIAA sanctions...http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia/astralwerks/phoenix/alphabetical/video/run_run_run_300.asx

I think the only Fat Les tune I know is the Vindaloo single. Is anything else by them worth tracking down? - I can't say I was too impressed with the one I know.

He does novelty songs, Fat Les does. Take it for what it's worth, but I think that reggae track is worth checking out. I shouldn't be surprised if he did some quality work back in the day, before he figured out that songs like "Vindaloo" would get him on top of the pops in the footie season.

You do know that he ain't a person, yes? I think Keith Allen who used to be part of The Comic Strip Presents... is one of the main people behind it , isn't he, him and some bloke from Blur?

It wouldn't surprise me, actually, that he was part of The Comic Strip...etc I remember one of the Adam & Joe episodes they wrote a football song..."ball ball ball, footie footie footie"... I'd guess that the guy who collaborated with Fat Les was Damon Albarn. He's always trying to branch out from Blur. He did the Gorillaz album with Deltron 3030 to be a full partner, and not just a major contributor.

That's what blows. I lost so many things that I really had to hunt for in the first place.

Oh, another thing I was looking for on the web last night was stuff from Jools Holland. I love anything he accompanies. I forgot how many truly amazing artists he's collaborated with over the years, or had on his show.

Huh. I guess I always think of Damon when I think of Blur's extracurricular activities.

I just got around to listening to Velvet Revolver, too. Urgh. I like the music, but maybe I shouldn't have watched the video. It's painful to see Scott Weiland in the deep stages of junkiehood. He's beginning to resemble Perry Farrell a bit too much.
