Hypocrisy
How come the same people who are calling Kerry cheap and political for bringing up Cheney's daughter's name (in a positive way, I might add,) are the same people who rubbed their hands in glee and made a huge stink about the outing of New Jersey's governor?

Yeah. I think this thing will have only a short play time. Why? Because Republicans can't really go around the contry talking about the gay issue.

To answer your question seriously. Because it was an obvious attempt to both shore up his own support on the far left, call the administration hypocrites backhandedly, and cause a little wavering in bush's support from the far right.
Bush supporters don't like it when the opposition uses Bush's own tactics against him.

( shrug ) Politics is just "war by other means," and "all's fair in love and war," yes? :)

Cheneys' daughter is not a public figure, so why would he possibly want to bring up the lesbian subject?
Also, what is wrong with the Democratic candidate's wives? Teresa has for a while been sounding insane, now Mrs. Edwards for some reason states publically that the Cheney's are "ashamed" of their lesbian daughter.
So if it was ok for Kerry to bring up the lesbian issue, could Bush have brought up the fact that Mrs. Edwards is a lardy lass. Hey everything is fair game now it seems.

Because McGreevey came out of the closet to deflect attention away from some rather shady moves his adminstration made. For example, appointing his gay lover (who is not a United States citizen) to the post of Homeland Security Director for the State of New Jersey rather than following the recommendation of former acting Governor Donald DiFranchesco of appointing former Director of the FBI Louis Freeh. After his lover couldn't get a security clearance from the Feds because he is not a citizen, McGreevey kept him on his staff with "undisclosed duties" making over $100,000 a year on the dime of New Jersey tax payers.

First of all, Cheney's daughter IS a public figure. Cheney has talked about her and her homosexuality before, even while on the stump. She's one of Cheney's campaign managers. Second, Kerry said nothing negative about Mary Cheney. The only way you could think that Kerry said anything negative is if you think homosexuality is negative. So, in other words, the only possible reason for the Cheneys' to be upset is if they are indeed "ashamed" of their daughter. Finally, both Edwards and Kerry were asked questions about homosexuality. They didn't bring up the subject out of the blue. Cheney, at the time, even thanked Edwards...until the Cheneys wanted to turn it into a political issue and flip-flipped on their graciousness.
How can you call Kerry a bad man when he said nothing negative?
That being said, both Kerry and Bush spoke about each other's daughters in the 2nd debate. There was no stink about that. Kerry said nothing negative, and was even positive, about Cheney's dauighter. So, why all the accusations?

Bingo! Mary Cheney being lesbian shouldn't even BE an issue, but it is...and you know why? Because of the conservatives who keep trying to deny gays equal rights! The Republicans have only themselves to blame for this "controversy".

Great point. Cheney himself tried to get Dumbya to back off on this, but Rove thought it was too great a chance to buy cheap southern baptist votes to pass it up.
See, nobody expects anything will seriously be done. The whole anti-gay agenda is just to hoodwink the sheep again. Then when nothing happens, they are brainwashed not to blame Dumbya, but the Supreme Court! CBN and Robertson are on about this every night (that soulless bastard may he burn in hell).
Yeah, but she SOOO deserves it! :D
For what, exactly?
