I've always wondered why everyone made of Janet jackson slipping. Come on, like everyone watching the Superbowl never saw one before.

Hey europeans, don't you guys have those late night sex channels? Here we have to pay 10 dollars just to get special channels.

They also have nudity on daytime television. I don't see what is so offensive about the human body. It's such a natural thing. I think that American needs to overcome this obsessive Victorian puritanical view of sex and the human body as part of that.

Too many people involved with our rules and regulations think they know what our morals should be. These people should be jailed. There's no problem showing tons of violence and even dead bodies on television, but show a breast and the idiots in the country freak out!

I can understand their position on that Janet Jackson thing completely.

I mean, it wasn't the most attractive breast in the world.

I know... They seem to adore the glorification of mind-numbing violence, but put something about sex on national TV and the fundamentalists get in a tizzy about it.

Well it's not that open about sex, but it is still better than in a lot of countries where you have to wear the burka if you're a girl or all your family is banned and you are executed.

Not that it doesn't still need to make progress in that area though.

we pretend to be anti-sex in a vain attempt to keep convince everyone else so we can keep all the sex for ourselves

kinda like when your brother told you that the pie was yucky back when you were 5 years old

Surprisingly, I learned the other day from a person who is a citizen of the United Arab Emirates that over there condoms are encouraged publicly, Sexual education takes place in schools and abortions are completely legal in all cases. Some middle eastern nations put the US to shame, from what I hear :)

I agree that American policies regarding sex in the media and in general are rather ridiculous. It seems that most of you agree, so what do you think about both Bush and Kerry saying that we need to teach and encourage abstinence. In my opinion, that is in NO way an effective sexual education plan. It only creates more unwanted pregnancies and more unsafe sex. If people want to have sex, they're going to, and they are allowed to. From this : Surprisingly, I learned the other day from a person who is a citizen of the United Arab Emirates that over there condoms are encouraged publicly, Sexual education takes place in schools and abortions are completely legal in all cases. It seems as if some middle eastern coutries' sex education is indeed far surpassing the United States. We've gone through several sexual revolutions in the short history of our country, but surely there is much more work to be done.

There is nothing inherently wrong with teaching and encouraging abstinence in teenagers. However, we must do so intelligently. While some teenagers may take our words to heart and realize that they are not ready for all of the possible complications of a sexual relationship, many will not. Therefore, it is equally important to teach them about proper birth control, protection against STDs, and their options should they have a problem.

They're only anti-sex if they never had any worth having. They're the same women who tell their daughters that sex is something you do to keep a husband.
Like most elderly conservatives "my youth sucked, now it's your turn."

i think Trojan makes enough money annually to send one condom to every 16 year old male on his 16th birthday. they could even send an instruction manual. and coupons:)

and maybe a free depo shot for 14 year old girls since they seem to get more "open" younger and younger,

but more the venue. america is very saturated, actually, with sex images, etc. yes, it is true, america seems way to lax on violence and too uptight on sex, but on this i am not in deisagreement. the super bowl is watched by more than just over 18 on a publuic access channel....that is mroe the issue. have it where and when appropriate, show some responsibility as a network, is a pretty good point. but the halftime show was on at 8ish on public access..thus the problem.

but there is an odd sexual block with some americans. i agree that is probably due to lack of ever having good sex, but i don;t think european menare the ones who sohould make assertion, based on what i am heard, lol

I can't see what my fellow europeans find so strange about "Superbowl incident". It was watched by children! I f I was a parent and watched the Superbowl with my children I wouldn't want them to see someone showing her breasts to get attention, it gives the completely wrong image about sex I think (and shall these persons, let us say pre-tens (not teens) have to get any sexual images thrown up in their faces?).

Has anyone here heard of 'The Simpsons', TV show? Probably about 99% yes to that. Now, remember the 'Itchy and Scratchy' cartoons that sometimes appear on it? That show is shown at 8:00pm EST here in the U.S. but there's no hoopla about it. Hell, the Super Bowl itself is more violent than one breast is immoral. This isn't about the fact it was shown during prime time, it's more about the fact that sexuality here is hidden in the closet by conservatist bullshit.

It's funny. Flash a boob, and some people complain.

Then some people complain about the people who complain.

But then say the N-word, and the people who complain about the people who complained about the boob will go berserk.

Same coin, different sides.

But why a very short moment showing a breast is such a bad thing but Britney's videos are alright? Are those not watched by children? Or any r'n'b video? Being nude (i think) is far less sexy than covering a bit. but hey, I'm Finnish and used to nudity. Sauna has that effect on people...

I have a theory that everyone who is against sex and nudity and tries to preach their morality on the populace is just really ugly. See, if they stop everyone from seeing others naked, then noone will know what an attractive person looks like, thus making the ugly people more likely to score.

Or maybe it's cause America was founded on Christian values. Either way. :P

... I'm wondering, I heard that in some states you can be prosecuted for having sex with someone under EIGHTEEN??? Does it really mean you can't have a sixteen year old girlfriend when you're eighteen, or was I told lies? (it's not a rhetorical question, i'm really puzzled about it)

I was watching the Superbowl and I was kind of surprised when that happened to Janet Jackson, but I really didn't think it was showing much more than some of our TV. On MTV a lot of the people are close enough to being naked. There is a lot of sexuality on TV, I don't like a lot of it, but it is there. We just don't show full frontal nudity, but that doesn't mean we're anti-sex or anything. Sometimes you can get the idea without even seeing stuff (ex.- If you've ever seen the last five minutes of an episode of NYPD Blue you'll know what I mean).

It's not so much that America is anti-sex.

We're just pro-lazy.

Parents don't want their kids to see naughty images, but if they turned off the TV, THEY might have to raise the child. Horrors!

Also, consider this: we were founded by puritans. People so strict and blockheaded that the british kicked them out.

The shock and awe about Janet's nudity and Howard Stern etc is all blather, just empty words signifying nothing. It's what the right does best: make a big stink about some trivial sex issue while stuffing their pockets with other people's money.

Remember Jimmy Swaggart? He was preaching every day against sin, lewdness and debauchery, and here he was hooked on porn and prostitutes!

You know these GOP are lechers and hypocrites.
