I happen to like the South Effrican accent too. I like the Irish accent, but there are too many painful memories of the place to think of it or hear it without calling them up, and I love the English accent, because it reminds me of good times. There are some bad times too, but the good times stick in my mind.

I wonder if americans can tell the difference? I can't tell the difference between different Australian accents. I can tell the difference between new york, california and texas accents. Florida accent is the same as South American ;)

But there's more variation in accents in about 20 miles in England than there is in 500 miles in the US.

So, Americanos, when you say "English" accent, what do you mean?

I remember watching Daphne Moon on Frasier. She had a pretty good north manc eh-up oldham accent. But her dad had a wirral accent and her brother was a cockney.

Hmm, Brooklyn, Queens, distinct Puerto Rican and Jewish accents, and everyone in Manhattan speaks with that Federally propogated "TV" accent.
I guess that's 4 if you don't count ebonics and TV speak as New York. And there might still be a couple of old folks with the Lower East Side accent (the sort of accent that you would swear that 1950's gangter movies must be spoofing).

I've always heard the people from Glasgow called "glaswegians", and people from Manchester "mancunian".

It's always a giggle to hear Ozzy talk, though, because he's definitely a brummie.

I think the reason I said "cornwellian" is that I got confused with "Cromwellian" or something like that. It sounds like a good enough excuse, anyway.

Even the Manc accent has variaitions. Compare a Southern Manc to a Northern. North Mancs say Southerners sound 'posh'!

I've been told I have a distinctly non-distinct accent. The reason for this could be that I was born in Glasgow and lived there until about 6 years of age and then moved to Manchester with the family, coupled with the fact that neither of my parents spoke perfect English.
