Predict the 21st century

Amongst all the middle of all the political mudslinging comes a different topic.
Simple premise, predict what you think will happen in the rest of the 21st century (you don't have to be precise, vague predictions are fine).
I think there will be some good progress for humanity, but also some serious concerns. I'm not expecting the world to become a utopia or a dystopia.

WW3, and the subsequent nuclear proliferation. Like in any century, there will be civil rights movements, allowing gay marriage, and abortion becomes a common place happening and is no longer debated. The first human will be cloned.* A residential moon colony will be created. The Oil Crash (when we start to really run out of oil) will begin, probably following WW3. This will lead to the abondonment of the Moon colony due to cost, and the death of thousands. Economic situations worse than the Great Depression will occur. Much of science will be dedicated to finding alternative energy, and making it easier to produce.

Just a few stabs at it:
*People will wonder what our generation was thinking when it opposed the idea of gay marriage.
*The United States will no longer be the world's pre-eminent power. This may not be related to another power rising up to conquer her, but it may come from a combination of terrorist attacks and smaller enemy countries that "gang up" on the U.S. It will result in the United States fracturing into several smaller countries.
*A Third World War will take place between two new superpowers that will wipe out at least one third of the world's population. This will result in the leaders of one of the smaller U.S. remnant countries trying -- and failing -- to form a true world government.
*Space travel will not only be feasible, but it will result in some colonies, either on the Moon or Mars, or both. By the end of the century, one or both of these colonies will declare independence from Earth.
*Music will continue to decline in quality as corporations get more and more influence into the creation of music. This will eventually lead to a form of musical revolution that topples their power, leading to a renaissance.
*The Chicago Cubs will never win the World Series, as baseball will cease to be a major sport by 2050. The new team in Washington will win the World Series before the Cubs or Red Sox do. In fact, that Washington team will likely beat the New York Yankees to do it in George Steinbrenner's last year as owner.
*The National Hockey League will contract as a result of the current labor strife and reduce by at least one third. The league's owners will learn the hard way that it is truly just a niche sport in the United States. The league may split up into a Canadian league and an American league, with the league champions playing for the Stanley Cup.

By the year 2100:
There will be a conflict in the United States that will lead to a very big possibility of a second Civil War. It might not be North vs. South, and it might not be East v. West, but unless there are distinct geographical lines drawn, the U.S. could be ruined from within. In fact, this is likely what will bring about the downfall of the U.S. as the leading world power. That and more dependence of world economics on the euro. The U.S. will live on either as one nation, two nations, a handful of nations, or a shell of itself.
Quebec will leave Canada. Canada won't be sad to see it go, though provinces and territories to the east of Quebec will all but be isolated from Canada. They will either just go their own way as Canadians, secede and become independent, or in the least likely scenario, join the U.S. or whatever is left of it.
Brazil will get nuclear weapons. Not sure who they will use them against, but they seem likelier than anyone else in Central or South America to get them, unless Argentina or Mexico decides to have a border war.
Fidel Castro will die, Cuba will sink into chaos, someone worse will take his place, but since he's not a communist, the U.S. will do business with him.
Most of Europe will join the European Union. Britain might not, but a sizeable chunk of eastern Europe will clean up its act enough to join, of only to avoid the Russians. This includes Turkey, who will join as a counterbalance to the turmoil in the Middle East.
Russia will revert to an authoritarian, one-party, pseudo-communist state, kind of like China today. They will be years behind China, though, and have an impossible time catching up economically. Russia may become isolated and locked within itself.
Saudi Arabia will fight Israel in a major war. If there's going to be a World War III, this is where it will start. Saudi Arabia will get nukes and go to war with the Israelis. The war will be a stalemate, what with other states helping the Saudis and no one wanting to use nukes. The Saudi royal family will be deposed by Islamists, which is what will lead to the war. The Islamists will want to use nukes on Israel but will decide against it to avoid taking out Palestinians as well.
The AIDS epidemic in Africa will get worse before it gets better. However, Europe will lend some assistance and turn the tide against the epidemic, though by this time, southeast Asia will be riddled with it on the same level as Africa is today. It will spread to China, which will handle it in the most draconian way anyone will.
China's government will fall in about 50 years and be replaced by a provisional government that turns authoritarian, a la Chaing Kai-shek or Syngman Rhee. The fragile path to democracy will start with this leader, but it will not be as smooth or quick as South Korea or Taiwan's paths to democracy. By the year 2100 China will still be an authoritarian state.
North Korea's government will go the way of East Germany. People will get sick of people like Kim Jong Il in time and kick him to the curb. North Korea might reunite with South Korea, but it will probably take some time, and South Korea will insist on Seoul as a united capital.
Europe will give gay people the right to marry before America does, and even in 2100, there will be parts of the U.S. that don't allow it, though they will be the minority. Europe will also recognize rights of transsexuals before America does.
America will largely abolish the death penalty, as will justa bout every democracy on Earth. Authoritarian states will still use it.

World War III will start, probably after some country gets angry and attacks America or retaliates after another American invasion of a country. This leads to the recession of the South and possibly part of the American West into a separate country (countries?). This war is more expensive and much more brutal than any other war in Earth's history including WWII. Every country is involved in this eventually on one of the sides.

There will be a major push for alternative fuel, if China and the U.S. team up, oil will be used mainly by 3rd world countries as other forms become available from developing high technology.
*China will become the largest superpower, will learn much quicker than the U.S. to drop it's dependency on oil, and will lean more democratic as the people/society force it to.
*The EU will continue to grow and become a major player, along-side China and the U.S., the era of the Federal Nation controlling will truely be underway.
*The AU will begin it's trek along the same road as the EU, but it will be much slower and more painful, but the end of 2100, they will be set up much like the EU is now and in it's immediate future.
*Russia will very slowly begin it's trek back to greatness, probably becoming more of a federal system with more territories.
*Japan will begin to decline due to lack of expansion possibilites and China's massive power to the west.
*The middle east will be a hornets nest for the next 30 years minumum, lots of fighting between enemies and allies in that area.
*Brazil will be the big winner in south america, gaining power and money.
*Space: everyone will be rushing into space. Our first residential space station, our first off world colonization, new forms of travel, space is the unexplored frontier that will hold our interest in the next 100 years.

I was referring to a chunk of eastern Europe...there are states that are in the process of joining, if I am not mistaken, like the Czech Republic. The EU will include states further east and will extend to the west a bit as well, taking in Iceland.
The Saudis support the Islamists because they know that the Islamists can take them over. Give it time and the Islamists will do just that.
And if South Korea moved their capital, they will likely insist on either their new capital or Seoul as the united capital once the two nations merge.
Also, the U.S. may or may not split...part of me says that if they do, they will shatter and then sort of reunite in the form of a few nations.

It will be 100 years long.
Apart from that, Europe will consolidate itself as a world power, again, much to the chagrin of Africa, which Europe will continue to treat as its own private stash of natural resources.
The US and China will face each other in an all-out trade war, which the US will lose just out of sheer force of numbers. This won't mean the end of the US since they will consolidate their position in Canada and Mexico. South America, however will pretty much be left alone, which will result in Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina forming a much stronger union. Cuba will have to decide whether to join the US or the SAU (Sout American Union) since it will find it impossible to go on alone after the demise of Castro (which will probable happen sometime this century unless he really is the devil).
Anyway, we'll all be working for the Chinese. Not too bad, since we are all working for the US right now. So it's going to be pretty much the same thing.

They've already joined. But the existing member changed the rules so that they don't enjoy the full benefits for a couple of years. But yes, lots more will join. You might even see peace in the Balkans (but that's quite optimistic).
You will see a lot of African uprisings - yes, I know, we've already seen them, but they were against colonial powers. A lot of African nations still have no choice of who governs them, because they are basically one-party states, even though they are democracies by name. As a result, corruption is still rife. I don't think we're very far off some big events - I think it was in Kenya where all the opposition parties joined together and beat the government in the election - a lot of African governments are now scared shitless that this is going to happen to them, and it will be interesting to see how they change in order to stay in power.
The energy crisis in Britain will get worse before it gets better, some nuclear power stations will have to be built, and wind farms will slowly gain more acceptance. More and more homes will generate some of their own power (possibly through small wind turbines) to make up for the national grid shortfall.

The world is turned into a scorched wasteland, filled with misery and destruction, all thanks to the US of A deciding they don't like a nation and attack it again. This time the nation reacts with nukes, taking out western civilisation.
The war was because the US has consumed all of it's natural resourses and needs to take more... force was seen as the only option.
What is left of the world falls into Anarchy due to lack of resources and technology. By 2050, the world has re-entered the stone age, as nuclear winter sweeps the land.

The way I draw things, membes aren't really full members without full benefits, but they are on the way to doing it, so it's in process. more nations will follow that example. Hmmm..... What will happen.
Well i see Brazil and Argentina suddenly imperalizing South America and having a minor war, with Brazil winning, but doesnt conquer all of SA to be nice...for now.
Canada and Mexico will be annexed by America, and they will probaly change their name to the American Union or something like that.....
Several more One on one wars with America and...pick some random country. Maybe NK, Syria....And Saudi Arabia and Kuwait so they can get oil for even cheaper. :D
At this rate, Israel might turn to Facsism...probaly not a Fundie one...where they will massacre "Palestinians" and will probaly go to war with other Arab States..since the Arabs will probaly be outraged by this. And Israel will expand their empire to the Middle East with joint Oil Control with the American Union.
Russia will revert back to communism and wage war on the European Union, Turkey and Greece will have another war.
More Terrorists Attacks.... Africa in total Civil Revolution...with them killing eachother, and eventually unifying into a whole.
Aw heck..with things going the way they are now. This is what i predict in a nutshell.
Another Major World War...some Minor Wars, before and after the World War ends.
An exponential increase in technology and Industry, where we will begin terraforming Mars.
And if the World War is going to be a Nuclear War...then the death of Democrats. And the world will turn Fundamentalist Facists and Atheists Fascists.
If we're lucky, there might be some wars, but no major wars. But i definitely think Technology will boom, due to some new resource that might replace Oil for the most part.

Also, at the rate we're going, I don't think there's going to be enough interest for space colonies. We're still too far off for a functioning colony on the moon, Mars, or in Earth's orbit to work properly. We would need to make oxygen in space as well as all the other gases in Earth's orbit. We would need artificial gravity. We would need a way to grow or import food. We would need fuel. We would need a self-contained "domed city" that doesn't let anything in or out without airlocks. The Cold War was the peak of space interests. At best, we're going to have research stations in space, on the Moon, on Mars, etc. and before that, there will probably be research stations in other remote locations on Earth. They already have one on Antarctica; the next possibilities are at the bottom of the ocean, at the surface of the ocean, and possibly at the North Pole or Greenland.
More likely than independent colonies on the moon are semi-autonomous self-contained cities in international waters, sort of like a supersixed cruise ship with year-round residents. You know, the type of place rich people might move to, or that people move to just to get out of the rest of civilization.

Something just came to me. A while back there was a conference in Europe. From the so called water forum of which Prince William Alexander of Orange is the chairman. Their mission is like the name suggests water. Or to be more precise drinking water. In Africa and even south Spain desertfication is taking place. The Sahara is advancing in Africa. Their population growth is spiralling out of controll. So in the 21st century, if this trend isn't stopped, it's very likely we will see wars fought over drinking water. The US will support this policy tacitly because it will be too poor to act internationally and so right wing that all kinds of civil freedoms will be lost internally.

Shit, yeah, I forgot about the impending water crisis. There's not enough to go round any more, boys and girls...
The planet is covered in water. All we have to do is go get it.

In Dec. 21, 2012 we're going to get hit with an asteroid shower, destroying mankind like the dinosuars. Although a few who actually believes the myans and the Bible Code, Nostradomous and built a bomb shelter will survive. The new civilization will not have any central government but rather communities. Communities will trade with one another and everyone will live happily because each community is run in a diffrent way. You will have a communist community, hippie community, liberal communities etc. Theres a community for everyone! Thus a Utopia will happen because we realize that central powers will only have idiots as leaders. There will be no taxes because the community pools its reasources together.
And between the 37 members of the community, who each own an empty can and some mud, they can pool their resources together and buy a carrot.
And then they will all die of typhoid.

Don't know what 21th century will be, but I consider "Cyberpunk SciFi-book" as useful "Survival Guide".
Advertisements. Lots of them. Loss of privacy. I think the movie "Minority Report" just about nailed that aspect of the future.

In 2008 Hillary Clinton will run for President and win
Not if John Kerry is elected this year. :)
I think that China will become the dominant superpower. Once they realize that they have everything they need to become a superpower and stop being dumbass commies, then they will eclipse the US. We will still be the second largest superpower, though.
Around 2030, the white race will cease to be the majority in America, and the hispanics will become it.

A cheap, economically viable alternative fuel will be discovered. But noone will use it because it involves a very long tube and a dubious orifice.
Humanity will find a way to immunize itself against the ill effects of ingesting prions. This will solve both world hunger and a rising population of homeless.
We'll evolve all of our hair away. Hair styles will be replaced with either elaborate scalp tattoos, or oddly shaped hats.
And finally, the first openly gay robot will be elected in as president of the United States.

news flash- white people are not the majority in north america, only the largest minority. baig difference there. in any event i will conquer the world and make it into one big happy communist place, but i will clone myself so i will be the only one filling positions of power, so there will be no corruption. or, more realistically, oil and other energy is about to be gone, ww3 starts, global nuclear shithole, 1 millions years later the cockroaches evolve and dominate the earth. in any event, be sure not to be living up the gulf stream from new york.

"War.
War never changes.
The Romans waged war to gather slaves and wealth.
Spain built an empire from its lust for gold and territory.
Hitler shaped a battered Germany into an economic superpower.
But war never changes.
In the 21st century, war was still waged over the resources that could be acquired.
Only this time, the spoils of war were also its weapons.
Petroleum and uranium.
For these resources, China would invade Alaska, the US would annex Canada, and the European Commonwealth would dissolve into quarreling, bickering nation-states, bent on controlling the last remaining resources on Earth.
In 2077, the storm of world war had come again.
In two brief hours, most of the planet was reduced to cinders.
And from the ashes of nuclear devastation, a new civilization would struggle to arise.
A few were able to reach the relative safety of the large underground Vaults....

I love that game, along with Fallout 2.
Whilst moonbathing on my front lawn, my roof will fall off in 10 years today, at the same time Ulesch is the most omnibenevolent state in the measily world, and cheese have begun a rebellion against the way they are treated, so they start legions with some people who hide them.
I get layed for the 1000 time whilst writing the alternative to the dossier of Peru, the second best country that Ulesch won't attack.
P.S.- I'm sobre :) :sniper:  :mp5: :p :fluffle: ;)
