Fairly interesting.

I find the kitchen knife metaphor a little disturbing...
But some of those people do have a point, if I were Iranian and felt threatened by the US, I'd probably have the same opinion.

Why do you find it disturbing??

"We should have our own nuclear technology. For us nuclear technology is like a kitchen knife. You buy one to prepare food. But if a thief came to your house, you might use it to defend yourself. This does not mean you bought the knife to kill anyone with it.

Our big needs are water and wheat, and we have plenty. If other countries stop trading with us, we will not go hungry. The Americans will not attack after their experience in Iraq."

I think the man has a point.. a very good one at that.

They want their programme to remain peaceful, unless they are bullied into creating actual weapons.

Are we forgetting that Iran is a Terror-Sponsoring Nation?

The entire reason the U.S. is currently having a bad "experience" in Iraq is because countries like Iran and Syria are training and sending in terrorists over the border. :gundge:

I find it disturbing because he's comparing one of the most dangerous weapons mankind has to a kitchen knife... And while you can use a kitchen knife to defend your home, you can't use nuclear weapons to defend your house (unless you're willing to vaporize yourself along with the burglar...)

Well I'm glad to see that so many people would think that the world would be a better place if Iran had nuclear weapons. Especially with their history of state sponsored terrorism, the instability of the region and the nation itself, the radical Islamic nature of the regime and the fact that it's not even a democracy.

Some people redefine the world lunacy.

Leftist apologists to Iran..eh? As much as I could give several links on Iranian support and exporting of Islamic terror, I'm sure almost anything that isn't produced by the European BBC will most likely be dismissed as 'U.S. propaganda', so I won't bother. Good Day Sir!

NOTE: Pakistan has dismantled more al-Qaeda operations and arrested more al-Qaeda terror cells than any other Arab nation. The Pakistani president has broken ties to the Taliban to help America overthrow it and has taken the fight to al-Qaeda so much so that there have been a number of assassination attempts on his life by radical islamists. Just something to remember next time Iran-loving liberals start bashing Pakistan.

It doesn't make Iran a sponsor of terrorism, because in that case...

You mean Musharraf, the military dictator who installed a "guided" democracy? He's just like Hussein, just a temporary friend of the US because he serves their immediate cause of fighting terrorism in the middle east (and securing cheap oil in the process).

Precisely, Pakistanwas the only nation to initially recognise the Taliban government, but when he sensed that the possibility of funding and international acceptance after a fairly disastrous 90s for Pakistan (Kashmir ongoing, nuclear tests rising tensions with India), he took the sensible option of siding with the rich, powerful, militaristic international community over the evil but more recognisable Taliban.

He's pragmatic, helping the US on grounds of practicality and self-gain rather than idealistic ones. Hardly a bastion of freedom Pakistan.....
