Dear Cod,

We apologise for exterminating you from the Grand Banks and the North Sea. It looks as though the sonar and 50km dragnets might have been a bit over the top. We have tried to adjust by moving onto Sole, Haddock and Plaice, but since perfecting methods of scraping the seabed clean, those too are becoming increasingly hard to find. Now a lot of chippies are reduced to serving factory-farmed salmon.

Please come back. Fish & Chips are simply not the same without you. A nation mourns. :(
