Even though he was evil, my money is on Hitler. His campaign won the support of millions.

Possibly Rasputin. He was a commoner who was able to get the ear of the Czar, and unlike Hitler, he was able to talk countless women into his bed, even though, by all reports, he rarely bathed and reeked of vodka.

The force of his voice was apparently able plant a suggestion in the crown prince that his ailment wasn't crippling, giving the appearance of a cure.

My money is also on Hitler. I heard he took countless photos of him posing facial expression and he chose the one that was most effective.

Actually, Dubya's current use of fear tactics to have his own people scared shitless is a good canidate for one of the best speakers. Of course, 5 second awkward pauses hurt...

I'm probably going to get flamed for such an obvious choice, but my money's on Jesus. 2000 years and counting, compared to Hitler's 70 (or so). Statistically, Buddy Christ is lookin' good.

Ehh when I chose Hitler. Hitler was a master at public speaking. He started out with a soft voice and then build up. He used powerful emotions and powerful facial expression. He gave the people what they wanted to hear. His sentance was short and to the point.

Bush just goes ummm its hard work, ehhhh, Wrong war, wrong place, wrong time, *silent* Got wood?

Hitler's secret recipe was that all of his speeches were studied and choreographed(sp) like an actor who's studies his part for a play. Nothing was left to chance. But he was realy good at it. Goebbels was brilliant as well.

Muhammad. I am not Muslim but am Anglican but it is him. All other suggestions are pure nonsense.

Even though I'm an athiest, I think Jesus Christ must have been a hell of a speaker (excuse the pun), to get the followers he did - and to get them to do what they did, even under the threat of immense suffering.
Also Alexander the Great must have had the gift of the gab, in order to rally his men and get them to follow him for years to the ends of the Earth.

Demosthenes. Or perhaps Russell Conwell, whose lecture, Acres of Diamonds, was delivered over six thousand times.

I'd go with Demosthenes too.

How about William Jennings Bryan? He was suppose to have been a truly amazing orator.

I agree with my fellow posters about Hitler. The way he captivated his audiences and converted them to his own train of thought is admirable despite how horrible that train of thought turned out to be.
