Like him or not Bush is our president, and is now apart of our history and kids still need learn about him.

I heard - geez, why are they forcing the teacher to take her picture down

Thats stupid. If it was a picture of Bush alone, there might be something, but it was on a "small bulletin board" with pictures of other presidents on there as well.

Even as a staunch liberal, that was just assinine, and wether we like it or not, he's our president. What they should have done was to ask her to put up both politicians in a "Whose running" sectoin, but Bush's picture needs to be up there, it's just a lie if we try and run it any other way.

If kerry wins this election then put his picture up there next to bush, but untill hes actually president there is no reason he should be represented among the past and present presidents.

The District seems to work similar to any other school district. They suck up to the parents. What the parents want, they get. It's not a matter of anything else.

"Inflammatory politics" disrupting the class...gimmie a break. More like ass-kissing of the District Office.

Thank god. The office of potus is occupied by ultra-rich idiots lately (at least the last 4 years) or by people who have blowjobs in the office... tsk tsk. If I was Kerry, I'd not want to be put next to that group of former self-righteous US semi-emperors.

Kerry is an ultra rich bonesman himself. And like Bush he's bend on world domination. Zuckerbrot und Peitsche.

If you were Kerry, you wouldn't want to have a picture of you, period.

No surprise eh. As I said, "lately". Kerry will not be an exception, except that he is possibly not as much an idiot as Bush was. We'll see.

I'm anti-Bush, but that's just plain nuts! What is wrong with people these days?

I love the fact that the parents asked that the teacher "put Kerry's photo up or take Bush's down". I didn't know that John Kerry had been President of the United States.

What are these, hard-core Democrats or something (lol).

P.S I don't support Bush, in fact I live in Australia, i just though it was funny.

Don't judge till you see the other side. Apparently you didn't see the School District's response at the same location http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/news/wabc_100604_teacher.html

Do I know who is right? No. All of you are assuming the teacher's side is correct though. According to children in her class, she was telling them that they should be ashamed to be Democrats.

Heh. Apparently she was not fired or even suspended, she just walked out in protest.

Always two sides to the story...

Anyhow, I'm surprised the parents stood up against her. Most parents are Republicans.

The Board is correct. Even if it had been a debating class, the teacher's actions would have been proper only if she presented the opposing side as well and did not use underhanded tactics such as insults. It is essentially the same as insulting students for not praying or some other completely unrelated matter. Distorting facts and lying to get attention are also unwaranted, as well as blatant demagoguery to get more votes for a party. The argument goes as thus: Liberals kicked me out of the school for having pictures of George Bush in my school room! They are evil, immoral and unpatriotic!

Seriously... My history teacher has a picture of George Bush in his room along with all the former presidents, but is against him. Why do that? Because Bush is the president. The teacher does not spend class time slandering the president, it's just there because it is relevant. Having the president in the room is perfectly fine, it's just that promoting him during class is wrong. If it was a Young Republicans meeting that the participants had willingly gone to and knew what would happen there, the actions would be perfectly fine. The teacher should be either severely cautioned or fired, because spreading propaganda (it doesn't matter which way it goes) during class time and not reporting to work without reason are not good things.

She was tv the other day. She said she teaches english not history/civics and therefore never talks about politics in class.

Edit: If she DID say that about democrats, then at the very least she should be remrimanded if not fired. And I am a Republican

Yeah--that response by the school puts matters in a whole new light. I had a high school civics teacher like that--thought Reagan was the greatest thing since sliced bread and had us do a section on communism--communism as the red menace, not as a different form of government. God help you if you were the slightest bit reactionary in her class.

Insulting students is just plain stupid. You know that the kids are going to complain, and then you'll have a mess on your hands, just like she does. Putting the pres on a board full of presidents shouldn't be a big deal though.
