A former PSP supporter myself, it seems that the Nintendo DS (coming out on the 21st of November) is the superior handheld device. Not by power, but by simple game options.
See, the only possible good opening games for the PSP would be Metal Gear Acid (which differs greatly from the other MGS games), Death Jr, and maybe even that Devil May Cry game. Oh yeah, and there's the special UMD movies meant to play on your PSP (such as Underworld, FFVII: AC, Charlie's Angels, etc.).
However, the DS opens with Super Mario DS. Along soon will come Viewtiful Joe, Sonic DS, Super Mario Bros DS, Advance Wars DS, FF3, and possibly some cell phone games (FF7: Before Crisis).
And price-wise, the DS is superior with a $150 opening price. The PSP will DEFINATLY be much more expensive (some claim between 200-300 dollars).
Although the future in uncertain, the skies seem clear for the DS.
