Just wondering, who all here are the light weights and who are the drunks?
I fit into the drunks category, thanks to my "Night of the 50 beers".
BEER BEING MEASURED IN NORMAL SIZED CANS

I'd be dead, but then not all beers are created equal. My stomach certainly doesn't have the capacity for me to kill myself with, say, Bud Light (or, for that matter, generic American light beers such as Coors, Miller, etc. in general). A nice, dark beer, let's say 7% alcohol? Yeah, 20 of those would probably kill me, unless I spread that out over 3 or 4 hours at least, and I might pass out in that time.
are we talking bottles, small cans, large cans, halves, pints, glasses, what?

09-10-2004, 19:27
LOL. Yeah, I can't remember what I was drinking on the Night of the 50 beers.

I have a pretty high tolerance ever since I started working at a brewery, but 20 beers is a lot, especially if we're talking about 12 ounces apiece. That's a lot of volume. Now some days after work, I'll go up to the tap room and stand there drinking beer for three or four hours before I head home, and while I'll have a buzz, I won't be obliterated. That's with a beer that's 5.2% abv--we have stronger and weaker beers, but I prefer the taste of that one.

Yeah, well. I have a pretty good tolerance too. I have no intention of drinking 20-50 beers on a normal basis. I just did it once to see my tolerance, and hey hey!! no alcohol poisoning!!! I lived!!!

The Anchor Brewery in San Francisco, CA--the brewery that created the microbrew industry. Seriously. They hung around through the late sixties and the seventies hand-crafting beers while every other brewery had either transformed into some variation of Bud or Coors or Miller or had gone broke. And they were the inspiration for many of the people who started microbrews later on. If you read any history of beer-making in the US, there's always a good chunk of it devoted to Anchor Brewing and Fritz Maytag. It's a hell of a place to work.

Drunk , but not done. What does "buzzed" mean (a non Eng. speaker)?
Yesterday I had between 22.00h and 3.00h about 12 regular beers, a Trapist (9 % alc. vol), 2 Martini. Then I drove home, no probs.
Before 22.00 h, I drunk some wine (4 glasses) with my steak. The last 2 glases in the bottle, were taken after 3.00H am while on NS.

Buzzed means you're feeling the effects of the alcohol, but you aren't druck yet. Its like the half-way point between sober and drunk.

Cool! You guys are in in at least 3 "best beer" guides I've seen. (2 of which by Michael Jackson)
And 5,2 is the strength of some of our most common Belgian beers. (Jupiler, Hoegaarden -not all batches- and maybe Stella)
To come back to the original topic, 20 beers would have me passed out. If I could keep it in.

I voted "Drunk but not done yet" I am assuming this to a be a BUd/Miller type night.
These numbers change when drinking good beers, depending on the origin, and the circumstance.
IN the fall, eating stew and watching football I can drink 20 guiness and not bat an eye.

Every time I drink Jaeger, I can't help but imagining I'm drinking listerine. Not a big fan of the stuff. When it comes down to hard liquor, I'd have to go with rum, preferably Meyer's, or Bacardi if that's not an option.

Well, taking 'a beer' to be a 330ml bottle (1 pint = 568ml, for those of you who only speak imperial) and an average beer to have an alcohol content of about 5.0% (preferably Grolsch or Carlsberg), and I'm drinking fairly quickly (like, not over the course of 12 hours or something) then the following is true:
I can drink 5 without any problem
By the 10th, I'm probably pretty drunk
By 15, I'm either throwing up, passed out or both.
At the pub, I could probably drink more than 8 pints without paralysing myself, since they water down their beer so much, the alcohol content is less than 5%
