Let's see... mmmh... I'm a theist (theist not atheist) without religion. I'm anti-dogmatic and pro-gnostic. I was born in a Catholic family and I'm pro-christian but anti-catholic.
Plus in most senses I'm agnostic, obviously I already said I'm theist and pro-gnostic so not in the actual sense of not being sure of the existance of a superior being. I am convinced there is/are... whatever... that's the point: I don't care in which way it/him/her/they exist, it just does, I know it and I don't bother in trying to find its nature.
I think that's it. :D

Well....Christian here....'cept unlike most I've met in my country, not a Catholic...never quite understood why anyone would want to follow a single old man and hold him as a "holy" man, even after the papacy betrayed my countrymen numerous times in history....For instance my own family was once excommunicated a looooong time ago in the 1800's when an ancestor of mine took part in a Rising, those papacy bastards took the only thing that the man had to hold onto and that was his religion.....
Well, anyway, I'm just a casual Christian that'll say a prayer every now and again, but really couldn't care what religion the other guy follows, so long as he doesn't try and convert me or change my beliefs, that just pisses me off...

Gods are not an external entity. They reside within every force in creation from the tiniest quark to the entire universe. All things create their own gods some are small gods of things with little need to personify the unifiying power of reality, others need a bit more anthropomorphization and thus god's are created and faiths form from a need to express gods.
I worship at the alter of all creation and believe in the unifiying force of that connects us all.

Secular atheist. Why? Because, "Man created god and religion. Thusly, the burden to prove that these concepts are non-false rests on the shoulders of man. The secularist bears no burden to do the opposite." That, and a god existing makes little sense to me.
So, in a sense, it comes to "Prove it."

Sorry to destroy your beliefs, but religion does exist, ever heard of a church. Now you could say God dosen't exist, which would be resonable, Religion is believing in something, it may not exist to you, but as long as religion lives in one person it exists.there is no way you could say religion dosen't exist, because then what would we have this thread for.

I prefer to think of myself as an atheist (it seems logical - after all, I'm not a theist.) I won't go so far as to say that I believe in the non-existence of God, just that I find it improbable, unnecessary and, well, not something I have faith in.
By the way, for those of you who link Satanism to devil worship, you might want to research the Church of Satan a bit more deeply - it actually has nothing to do with devils whatsoever. I wish they'd chosen a slightly less controversial name though, they chose the name Satanism long after the name had been linked by Christianity to devil worship.
(I'd give you a link, but I can't remember it, sorry.)

you believe in God because you are scared of dying? how does God help you with that? do you think it is a good idea to base your beliefs upon your fears, or upon your inability to face your own mortality? rather than trying to use escape mechanisms, don't you think it would be better to face and address your fears?

Christian, or, to be more specific, Missouri Synod Lutheran. As some people may not thoroughly understand what a true Christian believes, allow me to explain. As a Christian, I believe that God created the world in 6 days. The first humans, Adam and Eve, fell into sin, and thus plunged the whole human race into darkness and separation from God, and all human beings are, by nature, sinful and unclean, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23. However, God sent his son to die for the sins of the world, so we could again be close to God and go to be with him eternally when we die: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whosoever believes on Him will not perish, but have everlasting life" John 3:16. If you believe in Christ, repent of your sins, and ask him to forgive you, he will save you. You cannot earn salvation through good works. It is all undeserved grace: "For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this isnot of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8. I also believe the Bible is the inerrant word of God and Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to God. "For there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12); "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me." Although some governments have used the name of Christianity to gain political power and achieve their gaols, they were not truly representing the will of God. You can't violate every tenet of a religion and still claim to be a part of it.

My religion...I have no clue. oO I'm too weak-willed to really whole-heartedly believe in any religion. All I know is that I get frustrated that in almost all religions, there is a sort of higher power that's above us. I'm a person who believes in equality, that all life forms are equal. I may not like some of them, but that doesn't make me better, or them better.

Blaming human failures in God? given that good lives are rewarded by eternal life, and that justice is guaranteed?
Don't get me wrong here, I believe in a higher energy that is within all of us. I was born and raised Roman Catholic and then become a non-denom Christian. I am now a type of Pagan.... To say that one can't think of "God" as Sadistic, that everything is just "human failure"? I respect your opinion but I think your eyes are closed....
I was diagnosised with heart disease at 18 years old. I was not born with it, I didn't do anything wrong to cause it upon myself, it just happened. God's children didn't believe that it could be possible to happen to happen in an 18 year old so they ignored my heart.... Until 2 months later I end up in the hospital within days of death. I was praying to "God" to let me die. I have a felt a pain of dieing that no one can EVER know until it happens to them. I grew up in the hospital due to many other unexplainable mishaps... Also by the time I ended up in the hospital with my heart I had several strokes that luckly only took out vision in my right eye. I had a huge blood clot in my heart that caused me pain, I have a machine in me to help me so I wont die...
Once again, don't get me wrong. I don't say that "he did this to me". I used to just believe that it is him letting me live, that is his care, that is his mercy... But now I know it is just equality that is placed in this world.
If God made this world and made me just to suffer my way through life... I don't think that is too caring. The worst part is knowing that the suffering I have gone through, still doesn't even compare to what a lot of others go through...
I tried for a long time to believe that this happens because I deserve it for some reason; God thinks I need to learn something from this, It is my own fault, I should just be happy I am alive... I'm sorry, I let go of my bite. I am a good person who has done nothing to harm myself or anyone else. I put others needs before my own. Things happen because good and evil have to happen in this world. It is the energy in everything. So I do believe, but I refuse to believe this almighty being is just caring and loving.
I do respect your choice, this is just mine.

I'm an athiest, mainly because I find the idea of a big invisible man in the sky punishing you for doing bad things too closely related to the tooth fairy, santa claus, or the boogeyman.
I'm glad the ideas around though, don't get me wrong. Religion is a great thing, some people are too stupid to recognize what's socially acceptable or not and need a higher power telling them what not to do. Other's need to believe there's a reason behind the madness so they can keep their sanity.
Me, I just don't care. Right or wrong (and I'm betting on right), I'm still going to live my life the same way because I'm guaranteed to have at least this one life. Nobody can prove there's more than one for me, nobody can prove there's an after life either, so I'm taking the one I know I have and living it for me.

Also I don't like bowing down in front of statues to pray. And I doubt the Pope is infallible. Nevertheless I believe the Catholic Church is the church of Christ founded on St. Peter the rock and I love recieving the body and blood of Christ at mass.

I grew up in a Baptist Church, but one of my Sunday School teachers said that we shouldn't think of ourselves as "Baptists" but rather as Christians in general.
I however, think that that should be taken one step farther and just allow myself to be a Theist. Someone who believes in God. It's pretty much a catch-all for many other beliefs.
Mine, personally, if you're interested, is that I believe in God very devoutly. I am convinced He exists because He hates me.
I kid, I kid, God loves everyone. He merely enjoys taunting me.
Let's see, I also believe that the Bible is God's word, but I also believe that so is the Torah (which is somewhat redundant, since the Torah is included in the Old Testament, I believe?), and so is the Koran (which I cannot spell, sorry) I believe that all Christians, Jews, and Muslims are related in the belief of the same God. As King Suleymon of the Ottoman Empire said "Why punish people for worshipping the same God differently?"
I like Theists because they don't let a Church tell them what to do, so there is no corruption, which has been present in the Catholic Church, sadly. It is simply, you, God, and His Word, and you read His Word and talk to Him in order to find out what he really wants from you. This in theory would be my ideal religion, however some people would use it as an excuse. God is not an excuse for anything, because of His greatest gift: Free will.
Although I am not Catholic, I also admire the Saints. I do not pray to them, however, I pray in their names. Such as saying "Dear Lord in the name of Saint Ilsidore, please let this hunk of junk work!" (I believe he is the Saint of Computers, amongst other things.)
However, none of this is necessary for Theism to work, it's just my personal views.
I also accept the possibility of Purgatory, which a devout Catholic friend of mine tells me about. He says that Catholics believe you need good works and faith to get into Heaven, but if you only have one of them, you go to Purgatory for a time. (Maybe a few centuries) Therefore, if you truly try your best to do good works for your fellow man, and truly try your best to find the truth, you are fine by me.
Though it upsets me how many atheists there are who think everyone who has a religion is naive and stupid. Well, more room in Heaven for me.
