Did you expect anything less? We all know that attacks are likely. I don't think it'll disrupt the Elections. The people have been waiting for this and now they will take it upon themselves and not be scared away by attacks.

I guess people don't care that elections are taking place in Afghanistan.
Once again, American Politics dominate over something that we have been striving for since this whole affair began.

It would be a welcome surprise if Karzai did NOT win. Damn US puppet :(

So the election of the mayor of Kabul is big news? That's all the presidency of Afghanistan is, considering that the rest of the country is being run by warlords.
It would be big news had Bush stayed the course in Afghanistan and truly made the country independent of tyranny and despots.

You are right on with the Mayor of Kabul comment. This is not democracy being served. It is a quickly put together election that is supposed to demonstrate that US foreign policy is working (it is not), and to help Bush at the polls.
Afghanistan is clearly not ready for a GENERAL election.
It is indeed great news that Afghanistan is finally having elections and it's been under-reported. I hope they all choose wisely and that the Taliban go to hell.

Nice choice of words? I am sure the people of Afghanistan and Iraq do NOT want to be "DOMINATED" by US Politics?

I wonder how turnout will be--any chance they'll wind up with more votes than voters? It's possible after all.
Maybe not, though, since the Taliban has warned people in the southern part of the country that they'll kill anyone who votes--period. The Taliban--the same guys we supposedly destroyed before we jaunted off to Iraq.
So pardon me, Formal Dances, if I don't make little girl squeals of glee at your announcement that "elections" have started in Afghanistan. It's one thing to establish a democracy, and it's another to declare victory--we've only done the latter.

The woman candidate!
hehe the independent candidate is always a good choice ;) , but I have to wonder what type of support (both foreign and domestic) she'd have. Given the info from the links, Yunus Qanuni looks to be the most viable candidate after Karzai, but he's just another American puppet :D

Well the elections are allready boycoted by all Karzai rivals due to the gigantic fraude.

Taliban in power: Warlords/druglords control most of the country.
Post-American invasion: Warlords/druglords control most of the country.
Post-Elections I'm predicting: Warlords/druglords control most of the country.
