Of course, as always, my personal Golden Rule applies: NO FLAMING. That said, feel free to fire away.

Oh yeah, the poll'll be up in just a sec.

I'd say hero as he tried to modernise the USSR and remove the old tyranny that held it.
Yes, he changed somewhat in the latter stages of his reign, but that was his attempt to preseve the USSR.
After that he did become better though again.
Overall though I'd say he was a positive influence.

Garbageoff was, in my opinion, a human monster. In addition to the atrocities his regime committed against Afghanistan, he was also an iron-fisted tyrant who held thousands of prisoners in the gulags, continued to support worldwide terrorism like his predecessors did, and was an all-around bastard. What else can be expected of a man who praised Lenin and Khrushchev?

Are you sure you're not mixing him up with Brehznev?
Gorbachev was the one who eventually ended the Soviet Union and released thousands from the GULAGs.

From a person who lived through the ice cold war and the post-glasnost cold war I must say he earned the Nobel Prize. We went from hating the Russians regardless to hoping they would be like us.

Wow, I wasn't expecting that from a Fascist...

But you left out the part where you're talking about Brehznev... he didn't do anything you said...

Gorbachev was a very intelligent and astute politician. Had he appeared on the scene just 5 years earlier, he could have saved the Soviet Union, and Russia and her satellites would probably be living under democratic socialism today.

Didn't you read my first post? NO FLAMING. And how the hell does not liking Garbageoff make one a fascist?

You wouldn't happen to be related to a guy named Drabikstan, would you?

Give him the benfit of the doubt, most people I know think Gorbachev immediately followed Khrushchev and people forget about Andropov and the other one entirely.

That wasn't flaming. That was me stating you're a fascist. I've read your ideas on how to run America. They involve reducing politcal freedoms and civil liberties. Simple as that.

Think what you want, I'm not a fascist. I hate fascists just as much as I do Soviet-style communists (not peaceful ones, like Letila).

Gorbachev was the one who released thousands from the GULAGs though, Brehznev is more like you described.

Either way, I commend you for disagreeing and refuting courteously, intelligently, and rationally, without resorting to name-calling like Hallad. You have my utmost respect.

...Dragged from Siberia to the Sahara-desert and then shot.

He started out doing a LOT of good stuff, but what he did afterwards is inexcusable and reduced his earlier progress to nothing.
