Much Deeper Than That....?

Some thing I read this morning in my daily rounds.. thought I would share it with you and see what you think..

Have the Republicans pushed the envelope so much in the last four years that it truly is coming undone? Is this the beginning of a shift in attitudes in America? Is there a culture war just over the next horizon? Or has it already begun?

*Note I didn't write the following, I am only quoting it for the purpose of discussion.

Their entire worldview is tied up to the Simian one. The entire Republican infrastructure has hitched its future, it ideals, its operating system, everything to the Chimp. They know if they begin to question the Chimp everything about their lives will unravel. Of course, everything they believe is lies. Always has been. But they upped the ante to such a degree with this manifestly amoral and mendacious Monkeyman that he is the only thing separating them from the personal and political abyss. This clown is such a fraud that repugs now face on a daily basis the lies that they have always lived by, and they clearly now are facing the possibility they have been had. It's all so clear. But to accept that is the beginning of the end for them. So they must fight, spin and lie even harder than ever did before. Because they know that acceptance of reality is much more frightening....

Heh, I'm not sure what having many husbands has to do with the topic..but umm.. no I personally don't. However it's not really my place to judge what others want to do.

Well... it's just that it's my understanding that you already have a husband... ;)

Steph, please explain your first post. I don't understand that stuff about "a shift in attitudes in America".

Since Clinton's presidency, the partisan culture war between liberals and conservatives has been going on. In the 1990s you had the likes of Rush Limbaugh relentlessly attacking Clinton (of course, this is Rush's right, but he often seemed to do it just because Clinton was a Democrat).

Clinton was impeached over a minor issue by a Republican Congress blinded by partisan hatred.

In the close, controversial election of 2000, you had Gore, who had little cross party appeal, against Bush, a man who epitomised everything liberals dislike about American conservatism. The camps were further polarised by the controversy in Florida, as many Democrats thought Bush "stole the election".

After 9/11, most liberals joined in the surge of patriotism and support for the president when the US invaded Afghanistan. When the administration twisted the facts and rejected internationalism to invade Iraq, the polarisation divisions resurfaced. The partisanship has been on the rise since then.

Anyone who takes Rush Limbaugh seriously needs a check up. That guy's addicted to prescription drugs and loves to make racist statements about black athletes. American patriotism was on the rise after 9/11 and it still exists in the Pro-kerry people, it's just that Bush no longer has this huge backing of Americans that didn't even vote for him. Party lines are beginning to emerge and the heated debate of Kerry v.s. Bush v.s. Nader begins.

You know, I'm sick and tired of the comparison between the current president and chimp. I'm sorry to say that this has gone too far. When will the ad hominem attacks stop? It's just not fair... for the chimp.

[QUOTE]

So, a president of our country lying under oath is a minor issue? With such low standards you should not care what any president does.

Ah, Mother German, the language of sociology... for some reason... :?
I think Frankfurt was actually the first centre of this science in the 1920s. Most scientist migrated to Britain or the US at the time from 1933-45. Many returned.
The main representative of the (left-wing) Frankfurt school was Theodor W. Adorno.

The word Kulturkampf refers to disputes between the prussian-german government (dominated by protestants)and the Catholic church from 1873-1878.
Reason behind was the so-called unfailability doctrine of the pope and the support of the catholic church for the main rival Austria in the decades before.
It resulted in the establishment of state birth registers and in the establishment of civil marriage (only valid if done before a state office). Other laws like the banned of some catholic instituitions were later repelled due to the compromise between government and church in 1878.
The next fight was the one government socialist party with the anti-socialists laws (1878-90 - due to the acusation of supporting terrorism (a murderer attempt on the emperor) which were also repelled in 1890.
