Has anybody here played the game "Civilization 3"
It is interesting, a stragegy game based on developing an entire culture, starting from inventing the wheel and having spearman, to to the ultimate goal of acquiring land, resources, technologies, Wonder of the World, etc.
I find it interesting that it is possible also to build the U.N., which provides alot of culture points, but can ultimately make you lose, by being voted ot, even if you are more advanced than everyone else, based on how the other civilizations feel abou you....
just a thought
Food for thought.

Well, without the rest of the world an individual nation is nothing.

countries that are hostile to me lose their votes once they lose their nation ;)
i generally tech up as a democ, switch to fascism (in expansion, they added this government ><) ally with a nation on another continent to use as a launching pad, and flatten everyone who opposes my views of how the world should work ;)

Care to back that up with any points to the contrary, rather than simply naming an animal?

I've found that global conquest is the most difficult way to win. The easiest 3 ways for me to win are diplomatic, wonder victory, and space race. And with all three of these victories, essentially everyone wins.

I'm going to have to ask you to back up your statements or leave the thread (and I recently found out that as the starter of the thread, I have that power and a mod can enfore it...I think)

i found global conquest next to impossible before well, the expansion pack conquests, but Fascism once its up and rolling is obscenely good for blitzkrieg (ironically) smash and grab. (Production in line with democracy, workers renovate land faster, no war weariness)
Everyone wins with global conqiest too, as my civillisation is far more advanced and efficient. Hegemony for the win ;)

It is true though; without the rest of the world, a nation is nothing. We need only look to the most reclusive member of the world (North Korea) to see a prime example of this. To survive in the world, each countries needs others and depends on others. This is indisputable.

Well...the point of this thread isn't to discuss CivIII or C3C. It's to discuss the importance of the United Nations--and I think CivIII gets it right. What happened when the last international forum fell apart? World war.
