Coming on the heels of Donald Rumsfeld announcing that there is no link between al Qaeda and Iraq, Bremer attacking Bush's assertion that the invasion and occupation were well planned and adequately staffed as well as dismissing Bush's statements that Iraq will not proceed towards security and democracy under Kerry, and the final report on WMD by the Iraq Survey Group (the U.S. appointed post invasion arms searchers) stating that Hussein did not have nor was seeking WMDs we have the following by Condoleeza Rice, National Security Advisor from today's The Washington Post:
Pardon Me?
Spin of the Week award: The winner, despite intense competition, is national security adviser Condoleezza Rice. Rice, chatting Sunday with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, was asked about Bush's claim that Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan, who sold nuclear secrets to North Korea, Iran, and Libya, had been "brought to justice."
"To 'justice'?" Blitzer asked, saying that seemed to be very "sloppy wording," since Khan had been "pardoned by President [ Pervez] Musharraf."
Khan, who has done more damage to the security of the United States than anyone since Benedict Arnold, "himself lives in a villa," Blitzer noted -- actually five of them. "And the [International Atomic Energy Agency] would like to question him, and the Pakistani government doesn't even allow that to happen."
We also have Cheney saying that the Bush administration has created jobs, when in fact there will be less people working on November Second than when Bush was inagurated in January 2001.
Since the Bush camp is so obviously out to lunch, I propose giving them a permanent lunch break.
