When your candidate drops the ball...

Do you ever find yourself watching a debate thinking, of your "own" candidate, "Why?! Why did he say that?! And why didn't he say that?!!"

With regard to Kerry's "global test" comment, I think, "WHY did he say it?!"

But in tonight's debate, I had to wonder... why couldn't Edwards come up with what is clearly the best possible response... and will Kerry?

What response? Here, read this:

"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."

Our nation was founded in "a decent respect to the opinions of mankind." In what may well be our most sacred document, we declare that even in the cause of just revolution decency and good politics dictate that we maintain a decent consideration for the opinions of the world. Does an invasion require any lesser standard??

Sure, it doesn't completely dig him out of his hole... but come on, any time you an invoke the Declaration of Independence is a good time, no?

And what, pray tell, does that have to do with a "global test.? I believe we already informed "mankind" of our reasons for invading Iraq. If we invade some other little nation, I'm sure we'll keep everyone informed that time too.

That "Global Test" remark just might bury Kerry. It was quite telling and shows that he WILL put the opinions of other countries before the security of the US. He denies it, but it is still there and this remark shows that.
