Just a little FYI before you say how much the right sucks

Whatever you do, don't clump all Republicans into that annoying "religious right" sect. They are a small minourity of the Republican party, the reason why they get all the press is primarily for three reasons:
- The Liberal part of the press wants to make Republicans look bad, so it focuses on the idiots.
- They're damned loud, and generally speaking, true Republicans aren't going to be that outspoken.
- Much like a stupid child, they say the darndest thing, and it's just entertaining to see what they'll say next.

In all honesty, the "religious right" is really more like the nonexistant (or unseen) "religious left." They believe the government belongs in daily life and that it should control just about everything. Remember that the Republican party was pretty much founded on the concept that the government shouldn't do much more than handle national security, the mail, and taxes when need be. You shouldn't have the government in your life, and the most that it should be telling you to do is that you can do whatever the Hell you want, as long as you don't cause harm to other people or the nation on the whole. That is what being a Republican is all about, not thumping your bible and calling everyone who disagrees with you a sinner.

So please, stop assuming that all Republicans are religious sociopaths, because it's not true by a long shot.

That may be true, but if you vote for someone who jumps on the bible-touting bandwagon you can't say 3.5 years later "don't blame me, I disagree with that".

If you disagree you should have voted for someone you agree with. If I were you I'd steal the Republican name back, and found a new party which thinks like you do. You don't have to vote Republican if you disagree with the policies of the Republican nominee.

The whole point of a democracy is to NOT vote for the person you disagree with.

"They believe the government belongs in daily life and that it should control just about everything. "

What was that about assumptions?

Everyone knows the Republicans are better than the Democrats because all Democrats do something no Republican would ever do. They make broad, unfair generalizations. :)

Gah, yeah, sorry about that. As I'm new to these forums, people miss the #1 rule when it comes to reading what I post.
"When I post something that seems definite, it really isn't."

Of course, not ALL bible-thumpers are that way, but a good majourity of them are (I live around them, I would know). Enough of a majourity to say, "That sect of the Republican party generally feels this way."

If you disagree you should have voted for someone you agree with. If I were you I'd steal the Republican name back, and found a new party which thinks like you do. You don't have to vote Republican if you disagree with the policies of the Republican nominee.

That's just plain ignorant. Do you know WHY I don't vote for the guy I actually agree with? Because I can't. Generally, I can only choose between one of two politicians. The guy I want for president isn't running, so what choice do I have? I could waste my vote on one of the parties that doesn't really count, or, I could vote for the guy who I think will do the least damage (Bush, in my case). It's sad but true, the way things stand now, any vote that isn't for Bush or Kerry is pretty much a waste of a vote.

Okay, but why not make it easier on everybody and split the Republican party into two entities, one fiscally conservative/socially progressive, the other socially and fiscally conservative? If as you say, they religious right are a small vocal minority, it shouldn't have too great an impact on the overall Republican vote if the party were to divest itself of it's lunatic fringe.

Divesting themselves of the religious right might just make the Republicans a more viable option for centrist voters, i.e. the Republicans might be able to get a higher percentage of the rational vote by dumping their nutters.

The last time the Religious Right didn't control the republicans was Reagon. After him they are but took over.
So to say that republicans are like the majority of the party isn't that bad of a generalization.
Its like saying republicans like the military most do.

So I'm sorry but republicans are filled with religious right.

Democrats are smart to not let religious left rule them. I'm a firm believer in Jesus but those evantalists go too far.

So you are saying that the left is right?

I happen to believe that the right is right (not as in right or wrong) and the left is like a white pice of cloth on a stick- it goes in whatever direction the wind blows it. Left, right it just depends on who is hearing the speach.

The Democrats, who you happen to call "left", would be our most right party EVER.
