I was looking into some anti-Bush news site website earlier today...suddenly I got one of those "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down"

Of course, I had a game on the other window that likely contributed to the problem, but I had a nice laugh. :D

Here's one I would like to see:

Error: You do not have the right to view "P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act" Please contact your ISP if this problem persists.

And this one:

Error: You do not have the right to purchase a copy of all "New Deal" legislation. Copies can only be obtained by going to your local Department of Documentation Agency and filling out a request form.

For Cali to be such a leftified state, how do you folks deal being under a Republican Governor? Arnie's like what, 5 or 6 of the last 8.

We don't mind. He's not as bad as Bush. And besides, he's better than Grey Davis (our former Governor who helped screw over our economy) and I think it's great that someone who's not corrupted by politics is running our state. Maybe it'll help change the country.

Well, not all Republicans are created equal, for one, I mean, you can't be a nut job Republican and get elected in Cali--you have to be a moderate socially at least. Secondly, the Democrats largely control the legislature and the citizens have the initiative process so we do a lot of legislating ourselves--usually badly, I might add. That means that the Governor, while more than a figurehead, is still not so powerful that he or she can make massive changes in the way the state operates.

You might ask the same question of people from Massachussetts. They seem to have the same phenomenon.

A lot of us do wonder if the only reason he was elected was because he is a well-known actor...

No, if you were in California and watched the different canidates make their stances, you would've voted Arnold as well. Arnold simply beat the living crap out of every attack thrown at him.

I disagree... I think arnold looked like a dumbass with most of his comments, especially "I will drive my Hummer thru your loopholes Arianna" -- or however that went. And I for one am rather embarassed for the way it makes California look to have elected him.

Peter Camejo was the only one that I thought sounded reasonable and the only one that got real cheers from the audience.

I couldnt believe thaey actually let him debate (same goes for Arianna Huffinton, that was a shocker as well).

I found that Hummer thing more of an attack to himself than an attack to the loopholes. Arnold was being attacked for being a rich actor. Mentioning his Hummers didn't seem like the best thing for him to do, despite it being undeniable that he has (a) Hummer/s.

But it was creative and different. People liked that.

And that seems to be the only example of his worse.

And I think everyone got real cheers from the audience. I don;t see how one whole audience can fake a cheer...

A lot of us do wonder if the only reason he was elected was because he is a well-known actor...Cruz Bustamante and Arianna Huffington supported Gray Davis. I know we're not supposed to compare political opponents to Adolf Hitler, Osama bin Laden, or Gray Davis, but Bustamante and Huffington really did support Gray Davis.

Tom McClintock was too right-wing for California.

Peter Camejo was too leftist for California.

Gray Davis was Gray Davis. Yes, we're not supposed to refer to political opponents as Hitler, bin Laden, or Davis, but Gray Davis really was Gray Davis.

That left Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I held my nose and voted against the recall and for Bustamante, and then I took a long shower afterwards.

Fact is, Arnold couldn't have withstood a traditional gubernatorial campaign. The groping story would have gotten traction, and he would have eventually had to have gotten beyond the mere platitudes and one-liners that stood in for positions. He also wouldn't have had such weak competition--I mean, Bustamante? Come on.

But when he runs for re-election, he'll have his "experience" behind him, and unless the economic bubble he's extended us into explodes into the shards that it eventually will in the next year and a a half (and it might), he'll probably be re-elected.

Indeed we do, and it leads to excessive government gridlock, as neither side will let the other get any kind of legislation passed. It's truly spectacular to see. It sounds like California is dealing with it much more efficiently.

I don't know about that--der Gropenator started out talking about bipartisanship, but that didn't last long, which is part of the reason we have a 166 page long voting guide just for the statewide initiatives.
