Kerry has said that bilateral talks with North Korea are absolutely neccessary. But Bush has said that bilateral talks will cause the six-party talks to collapse, and thats what Kim Jong-Il wants. Your opinions? Personally I think both are neccessary.

Kerry is a fool. We need to include the nations in the area (ie, S. Korea, Japan, China, Russia). As the last surviving Communist power, China needs to be included. North Korea may be mosre likely to listen to all of us. And if all else fails, we can all bomb those bastards.

North Korea is a "cult of personality." It is led by one man who is worshipped as a god by his people. Famine reigns in North Korea and children routinely starve to death there. The military, which props up the regime, is well fed at the expense of the civilians. The people are routinely told that the US and it's allies are preparing to invade the country.
The ONLY country that has any influence on North Korea is China. The US has no influence on them at all. To NOT include China in ALL the talks with North Korea would be a terrible mistake.
What North Korea does best is seperate the forces arrayed against it. In the 1990's they brought up the possibility of reunification. What did that do? it caused protests in South Korea against US military bases. I know this, because I was there. It drove a wedge between South korean students and the US forces there.
North Korea wants to do the same with the multilateral talks and Kerry will play right into that ploy and then his credibility with the North koreans will be finished.

Look, Clinton made a deal with them...they IMMEDIATELY violated it. Thats what they do, it does not matter WHO they make any deal with, they WILL violate it. Your opinion is unrealistic and shows a great lack of understanding or knowledge of what is North Korea.
Why am I not surprised?

The only county that has any great influence on North Korea is of course China. Kim Jong Il doesn't seem to fear the US but he would sure as hell be scared if that Chinese Army cam rolling over the border because it would be a very quick war. They are certanly not afraid of South Korea or Japan and I'm not sure about Russia, although I'm sure they view it as similar to the US. China makes or breaks what happens with North Korea and they know it.

That is certainly true. Though China had asked the US also to talk bilateraly to North Korea. South Korea has also done that - however demanded to be consulted.
It would mean to give in to one North Korean demand.
Therefore I think it should only be done if the six-party talks are close to a solution. Then bilateral talks could be needed to get a break-through. Otherwise they donĀ“t make sense, though.

And because of the fact that Kerry wants to ignore everyone else and keep China out of the talks, all he would do for the situation is be like Clinton and give in to their demands and further prolong the whole problem allowing them to uild more nukes to later use on us.

i agree, for once, theres something that bush would beat kerry on. he would actually put some pressure on NK. but i seriously doubt that he will invade them..no no..iran is next remember..maybe we'll see some action in about 10 years, eh?
