More CNN Bias

Seeing as though this forum has a large majority of hard core liberals, this will probably get flamed but here's how I see it.

Just watched CNN's show comparing John Edwards to Dick Cheney(it was on at 7:00 Eastern). It just proves to me the liberal bias of this station even more.

They started with Cheney. They were quick to mention all of Cheney's faults in early life. For example, Cheney using "connections" to get into Yale because he wasn't smart enough, his failing out of Yale, mentioning his 5 deferments(though not discussing them), and they managed to sneak in his two arrests for drunk driving as a college kid. They actually spent more time on his life before his twentieth birthday than his life since. They attacked his conservative voting record in congress(although conservatives tend to vote conservative right?) They accuse Cheney of being extremely stubborn in everything(by bringing liberal guests on the show). All in all it was just more propaganda from CNN. They focused on all of Cheney's faults and none of his strengths.

The first thing you notice with John Edward's portion of the show is that it is in fact John Edwards doing alot of the talking(whereas Cheney didn't say a thing in his part). They talk about Edwards defying the odds as a poor child in rural NC to go to law school. He becomes a personal injury attorney and fights for everyone's right to sue hospitals with frivilous lawsuits(I wonder how many people lost jobs because of the money he took away from hospitals). They skip over the millions he made, make you cry when his son's jeep got "blown off the road by a gust of wind", and tell you how down to earth and what a good guy he is. They cover his Senate race next. They prove to us that he is above all the nasty politics of Washington(which he isn't). To be fair they do put republicans on to criticize him, although unlike cheney, they bring other "friends" on to refute all their claims.

In summary they painted Edwards as a saint defending the innocent and Cheney as an ambitious facist bastard.

Heres the deal: Every institution has bias. Its OK. But you have to be open about it. For Example the Wall Street Journal has acknowledged its conservative bias. But groups like the New York Times and CNN have not.

OK, flame away.

well lets see, how isnt this biased

edwards was raised in a poor blue collar family
cheny has been alive alot longer and thus has alot more stuff to criticise

your bullshit:
of course everyone who opposed cheny is a liberal scumbag instead of some sane person
you assume edwards has done all these evil things that no oen wanted to bring up
and OF COURSE HE MADE MILLIONS HES A DAMN LAWYER. who gives a damn, its already known.
how many jobs did cheney cost suggesting we downsize the militarym, cut funding for military projects, stop military projects, his work as the head guy at haliburton, how many jobs did he cost?
you ASSUME all lawsutis are frivolous, come spend a week at our local hospital, you will know damn well there are non-frivolous lawsutis when you thank your god you are not on the inside of that killzone any more

Well...the answer lies in pivotal moments in their lives. Those CNN biographies usually follow this formula (read 'politics' as the person's 'profession' when talking about entertainers and other non-political people).

How was their childhood? Family? What was the setup like? Rich/poor? Did it have an impact on how they saw the world? What did Daddy teach them?
What were they like in school/young adulthood? (criminal arrests are fun here)
What got them interested in politics?
Did they have any adversaries to overcome?
What things did they champion when in office? Voting record?
Pivotal moments in their political/personal lives.
Current events (why we bothered to do a bio. A.K.A. 'In the News')

Knowing that, can we construct an negative-sounding story for Edwards and vice versa for Cheney?

Figure out a way to do this and you may reveal a bias. But if you can't do a fair job with it then there may in fact be a reason why Cheney appears evil in the bio. *makes Darth Vader breathing sounds* :p

(BTW bringing up Edward's trial lawyer past doesn't really help your case. There are plenty of trial lawyers in the right's camp. It's pot and kettle, really. Are you trying to say he's unqualified because he's a lawyer just like many in the right? It doesn't make sense.)

Wow you refer to our hospitals as "kill zones". Coming from a family of doctors I assure you this is wrong. Why don't we compare how many people hospitals save to how many they kill. Next you'll be saying doctors are insane serial killers. How bout we deny everyone access to these "kill zones" and prevent doctors from working. Sure we might save alot of people from hospital accidents but how many more will die.
