A bunch of Japanese police just showed up here at my apartment building and arrested a guy.

I've known this guy for a few years. He's mentally ill. He doesn't live here, but the few weeks he's been hanging around. The manager kicked him out of the building at 2 AM last night for banging on his bongos on the roof balcony.
One of the neighbors saw him with a gun and called the cops. Turns out to have been a fake, but the guy was taken away as a safety risk...

Government. Can't stand at all. Authoritarian capitalist ones like the US and Japan really suck.

Yes...for detaining mentally ill people...

Contrary to popular belief, mentally ill isn't a synonym for "I'm crazy and going to kill a whole bunch of people". I could see the man being arrested for disruption of peace, or trespassing... but safety concerns?

Here, here. Enough with the stigma against the mentally ill! They need help, not incarceration.

Safety concerns? How's he going to hurt anyone with a fake gun? We know he's mentally ill, yes, but can he tell the difference between a fake gun and a real gun? If he can, then he was being harmless.

We are talking about someone with a history of mental illness and violent behavior. He attacked someone with a kitchen knife a few years ago.
Even you should be able to cope with his removal from a place where he may be a threat to others...
If you really believe demonstrably dangerous mentaly ill people should be allowed complete freedom of action.... I have no words for it...

Trespassing isn't a safety concern?

Trespassing isn't a safety concern?

Not always.

a) We're not talking about breaking and entering, or invading someone's home.

b) The guy was on the roof playing bongos.

If you can point out the inherent danger of a man playing bongos on your roof, please feel free to. It was an annoyance possibly, bizzare even - but nothing more.

I thought you were condemning the government for what it is, not simply pointing out things.

For trespass concerns, the building is pretty open. People who live here are pretty well allowed to come and go freely.
And as for mental illness, this particular person has certainly shown a capacity for violent behavior. Mental illness certainly does not equal violent behavior, but it does not preclude it either. My understanding is that he has spent time in hospitals for his problems in the past and that he will probably be remanded to one again now.

Nope. Not condemning the actions of the police at all. They did *exactly* what they were supposed to do.

If Daistallia's wacko had been a proper Anarchist, he never would have been mentally ill. Anarchy prevents illness, right?

Or maybe nobody would have noticed his illness, there not being a corrupt govenment to watch out for that sort of thing.

Or maybe nobody would have noticed because mental illness is considered 'normal' in an anarchy.

In any case, anarchy would have solved all these problems, just like it solves all others. Thanks for the valuable input, Letila.
