This thread is in response to the other thread, which asks who you would want to rule the world...

So, if you were elected to the Office of The United States of America for some freak reason, like a wierd, massive write-in coincidence, or a Diebold Voting Machine glitch, what policies would you implement...What would you do?

Use the power to rule the world.

I doubt everyone on NS needs me to repeat that.

Allow gay marriages, give equal rights to all (actually do it), reconsider the situation in Iraq, remove the Patriot Act, send Bush to jail and force Chaney to invest his money in rebuilding Iraq, invest in social education and ban all guns. Haha what a lefty.

Oh and don't forget investing in the environment to revive it from the torments of Bush.

What a loaded question! I'd probably try desperatly to turn this nation into a fascist state in the hope that it would implode and create a power vacuum. Our society will eventually fall, whether it be two hundred or ten years from now, so which is better? A controled collapse or a series of events bringing about total collapse and utter anarchy?

But this is all moot as I have no power and even if I did, I doubt that America would allow me the indulgence. That and even though I have a poor opinion of the average American's intelligence, they would NEVER be so stupid as to allow such a thing to happen so rapidly.

Well, the other guy's plan is just as valid. A US President could get all guns banned. He could also increase social funding and whatever else he/she said.

The President has very little literal power, and taking over the world seems like a task requiring literal political/military/economic power. My post was mainly questioning your statement that you're the only one thinking around here.

As for staying on topic, I'd raise taxes and begin relieving the country of its rising national debt. No way in hell I'd ever make it a second term if I raised taxes, but those four years would be well spent.

To lower or remove Islamic terrorism, you may want to consider a more considerate way to treat muslim nations and to not meddle in their affairs. Also consider signing the Kyoto protocol, acknowleding the ICC/ICJ, reinforcing the constitution by doing a true separation of state and religion, actually stopping nuclear proliferation - especially in the US, ending 100% support of Israel and it's atrocities.

If I was elected as POTUS for the aforementioned freakish reasons:

The first initiative I'd take is to repeal the Patriot Act, the whole Act in its entirety. (I would need both Congress and Senate approval wouldn't I?)

Another thing I would push for is a return to MILITARY isolationism, fighting 'terror' (if they aren't really in league in the current adminstration) can be done entirely on home soil. Instead of holding up these unstable situations (eg. Israel, Taiwan), we'd just pull out and let things evolve naturally in the political sense. Better a clean-cut fiaso than drawn-out tension.

An executive order I would issue is to release the wreckage from The Roswell Crash from 1947 and all the files, and any alien bodies we have preserved. The global chaos and shock that follows - well, better now then when they're in our atmosphere right?
