Media Bias

Diamond Mind

We've all heard it ad nauseum about the "liberal" media. I think at one time 20+ years ago this could have been valid. But looking at the fact that back then there were at least 50 different owners of all the media outlets in the US and by the year 2000 that number was reduced to six. It's not that difficult to examine who owns these outlets and what their political views are. We have GE, Disney, Viacom I believe, Rupert Murdoch....etc...
None of these people are left wing, maybe CNN would be with Ted Turner?
Even still they've seen how successful FOXNews has been and they pretty much parrot what's being said on there. So the bias seems to be whatever makes the most money, is it not so?

I suspect that the "liberal media" mantra is a Republican effort to coerce media outlets into becoming more conservative. This would be an effort to counter this non-existent "liberal bias." Hence, by making the whole media conservative, a program of mass mind-control could be launched. Soon, the US, like Rome before it, could transform from Republic to empire.

That's my conspiracy theory. The real reason, I think is simply that some people are so right-wing that they see objective coverage as left-wing. Similarly, most anarcho-capitalists consider all governments that have ever levied taxes as *socialist*.

There are about 50 people on these boards who have posted that very argument over and over, only to find that there are also at least 50 rock-ribbed conservative diehards who will never accept such a crazy idea, because FOX News and Rush Limbaugh told them different.

*sits back for the ensuing useless "debate" and flamefest*

Well, mostly in movies.

Shutup already you Nazi

Well we can count on one source of unbiased news in this world; my school's 2-award winning student newspaper - I proudly call myself a reporter on it.

And TT, while some Jews are active in the media, let me disprove your point w/my paper - there are a couple of Jewish editors, but far more are not (including our editor-in-chief).

We're not so little you imbecile - especially if we snagged the top spot for 2 major awards!

And I was joking around about the whole unbiased thing - even we make mistakes in factual content, but not due to political agenda.

Yeap, CBS and 'rathergate' was the best thing since sliced rye.
On a serious note, the NY Times is so dripping wet with green ink, one cannot touch the first copy.
