The Patriot Act

The Patriot Act seems to be a wonderful law to stop terrorism, but in fact, a lot of what has been happening with it is unconstitutional.

If some Arab were to check out a book on bombs from the library (say, to figure out how to make a perfectly bombproof house or some sort of bomb detector for airports) he would be liable for arrest. He might spend two or three years in jail without seeing a lawyer or even knowing why he's there.

Soon, it will be un for repeal or renew. I'm curious to see who votes for its renewal, and who votes for its repeal.

You mean like red necks buying guns, or just arabs?

Neither - please don't pervert my quote like that; I mean that those who would accept Patriot in the name of protecting themselves are really cheating themselves of their Freedom

Significant portions of it have already been overturned as unconstitutional, but I'd still rather let it expire or be repealed completely. After all, judges have been known to make some wacky decisions in the past.

I wouldn't say it needs to be repealed, we should keep it, but revise it and sort of fix the problems.

John Kerry wants to repeal about 5% of it. The Bush campaign says this means he supports it and opposes it at the same time

The PATRIOT Act is the first step in the establishment of true Jewish oligarchy by silencing all opposition, eliminating the remnants of the Constitution that keeps them secret. On the other hand, that Arab in your example shouldn't be in the USA in the first place.

Im not sure you could be any more wrong if you tried to be. I think you could make more sense if you tried though... food for thought.

And why should that "Arab" not be in the US in the first place?

Yay Ben Franklin.

I think it was rather sneaky to name the thing the "Patriot" act so everyone who's against it looks like they aren't patriotic, right when everyone was rabidly patriotic.

I think it should be renewed. It contains many good pieces of anti-terrorism legislation. The anti-freedom parts should removed. Keep the good bits.

Well said. The patriot act is an obvious violation of our liberties.
