Example: The invention of the internet, the First Amendment being born, etc.

It must have something or everything to do with "Communications in History"

I need ideas like these to choose a topic for 2005 History Day. Back in April, 2004NHD got me to Sacramento in the State Finals. This year, I want that paid trip to Washington D.C.!

Perhaps I'll see President Kerry! :D

Current ideas for topics:
- The First Amendment
- The United Nations: Communicating Peace?
- American Presidential Campaigns and the Media's powerful role
- The Power of Speech and Propaganda: Nazi Germany (can be easily substitued with America)
- Lack of Communication between a President and his citizens in America

The invention of the printing press, perhaps the greatest invention in the past 1000 years. Information to the masses and all that.

It was considered, but I decided not to because I wasn't so interested in that.

Besides, it doesn't allow me to go too deep into it. With a topic like "The United Nations - Communicating Peace?" I'll be able to go into an in-depth analysis

In that case, I think your topic idea of propaganda in Nazi Germany is your most interesting topic. It's good to see you're not relying on boring American history topics like most people do.

Agreed on the matter of other boring historical topics.

I can bet you anything that I'll be seeing at least 10 other projects on the internet and the telephone :).

And 50 on topics like the Civil War or WWII.

I did mine on the Salem Witch Trials which got me to the Massachusetts state finals waaaay back in 1999.

I forget. Something that the Salem Witch Trials was related to, it would seem.

technically, every event in history relates to every theme, in one way or another.

For me, 3 events in the history of human commuication:

i) When some pre-historic human first made organised marks on a surface (eg. cave painting) , that was either the beginning of art or written language

ii) When Marconni first switched on the radio - today we use fundamentally the same technology to transmit a lot of our data

iii) When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone (I know the story with some guy Gray...Bell was the first to get the patent though, so he counts in my book)

Here in America, we have this event called National History Day. It's simply a program to get the kids into this contest where they create a type of project (paper, board, documentary, etc.) about a certain event in history relying on a certain theme.

No, I'm not asking for homework help. Only for ideas.
