It is all confusing, for isntance just take trance:
Trance:
hardtrance
geotrance
psychedelic trance
progressive trance
and many I forgot / never heard of.

As many types as you are willing to recognise.
To me all trance (hard-, geo- etc.) is trance. All metal is metal.
Just because people make slightly different music does not mean it can't be collected under one genre.
