Josh Marshall (http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_2004_09_26.php#003556) has been covering this all day, but here's the lowdown in case you don't feel like following the link.

Fox News senior political correspondent Carl Cameron--known to Outfoxed viewers as the man fellating George Bush on camera during a 2000 campaign interview--penned an article for the Fox News website today. Here's an excerpt.
"Didn't my nails and cuticles look great? What a good debate!" Kerry said Friday.

With the foreign-policy debate in the history books, Kerry hopes to keep the pressure on and the sense of traction going.

Aides say he will step up attacks on the president in the next few days, and pivot somewhat to the domestic agenda, with a focus on women and abortion rights.

"It's about the Supreme Court. Women should like me! I do manicures," Kerry said.

Kerry still trails in actual horse-race polls, but aides say his performance was strong enough to rally his base and further appeal to voters ready for a change.

"I'm metrosexual — he's a cowboy," the Democratic candidate said of himself and his opponent.Fox News has since retracted the article and apologized--well, sort of apologized. They've said it was a mistake that it was done in jest, but the point really should be made--any claim Fox News had left to be considered fair and balanced just has to be shot to hell now.

Who's overreacting? Imagine the shitstorm from the right that would follow a report on say, the CBS website for instance, that made up quotes from George W. Bush and presented him in a slightly effeminate light. Got that in your head yet? Now tell me I'm overreacting when I present this story with the sense of humor that the poll clearly shows.

Yeah, after all, it isn't like CBS News (good choice, Incer) has made up anything fake about George W. Bush lately, right?

1. What the hell kind of poll is that???

2. If the same thing happened to the right, I would still laugh my ass off. Don't take yourself so seriously. It's not all conspiracy.

I chose CBS on purpose, simply because of the shitstorm that ensued, especially considering that the shitstorm failed to change any of the underlying accusations made by 60 Minutes. For my money, this is a lot more serious. CBS at least got the majority of the story right, and got burned by a source. Fox just made shit up and posted it like it was news--and written by their senior political correspondent no less. If you can't see the difference here, Panhandlia, then you're as blindly partisan as I figured.

1. It's an intentionally humorous poll.

2. I would as well. That's the reason for the poll's wording. Edit: I threw the word "leftist" into the first answer strictly for Eutrusca's benefit, because he's so free and easy with the word.

And yet, when Dan Rather made a mistake, the right called for his head. Where is the same call for journalistic integrity?

When CBS made the mistake, they did not do so intentionally. Fox did it on purpose. That's much worse and its yet another reason why Fox is a plague on this country.

Wow. Case in point.

Those are two different situations, Mr. Land. One was intended as humor, the other, well....not.

Yes a plague...that also includes Michael Moore, Ted Turner, Al Frakie, Ann Coulter, Dan Rather, NY Times, Washington Post, George Soros, Larry David, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity...

What a halfassed statement. One Conservative network and you cry murder. Yeh...you are really a liberal... ::rolls eyes::

Yeah, ok.

FACT: CBS News spent 5 years "researching" a "story" that has been brought up like clockwork every time GW Bush runs for any kind of office.

FACT: In 1994 it was disproved...it was disproved again in 1998...ditto in 2000.

FACT: CBS News didn't get "burned by a source." They got burned by their blind pursuit of a non-existent story. But what truly makes CBS's story a scandal was their dogged refusal to retract the story once it was proven to be sustained by forgeries. Contrast that with Fox's immediate retraction, and their immediate action against Carl Cameron...we're still waiting for CBS to do something...ANYTHING about Dan Rather, who by the way, still stands by the pile of dung he attempted to portray as a news story.

The worst part is, the Dems' willing accomplices in the media (that is, everyone other than FoxNews) were only too happy to let the Dan Rather/C-BS News scandal (and that is exactly what it is) fade away. Let's see if they give Carl Cameron and FoxNews the same treatment (don't bet on it.)

dude, anybody who is still watching Fox News for anything other than entertainment is not going to be swayed by factual evidence that Fox is biased; people who have the slightest interest in fact have long since abandoned Fox, and the only people left are those who prefer not to let a little thing like reality get in the way of their "news."

You know what's funny about people like you? You automatically dismiss the possibility that:

1. I like FoxNews, but it is not my exclusive source;
2. I also like other news sources, and don't just sit drinking beer and watching Bill O'Reilly; and
3. Most importantly, you assume I'm too stupid to see past spin (from ANY organization, not just Fox) and seek the facts underneath.

It doesn't matter which organization is reporting, they all have their perspective. I don't listen to perspective. I listen to the news. I listen to Fox and to NPR (talk about opposites on the spectrum). I watch CNN and BBC. I watch NBS and CBS (well, not CBS so much, now, because their FACTS were proven to be fabricated).

Let me illustrate that, too. Facts are facts. Commentary is an interpretation of those facts (Fox is a HUGE fan of commentary), but I don't consider commentary a source of fact. It's just an opinion. I dismiss it from all sources.

Please forgive the rant, but it is bloviating blowhards like you, consistently calling me stupid, that always gets my hackles up.

Oh, and try to wrap your head around this one: I watch Fox News every single day, and I might vote for John Kerry.

Don't let the head sparks burn your hair.

like i said: you aren't watching Fox for news, you are watching it for entertainment, commentary, and consciously-biased fun. that's not news, honey-bunny, so don't get in a huff.

and try to wrap your mind around this: i think Fox news is pure crap, and i am NOT, nor have i ever been, a Democrat or a "liberal" according to the American political spectrum. save your rants for somebody who actually feels like defending liberalism.

Not really in a huff, but keep trying...might be fun ;)

Most of the reason I watch Fox is because I am in the military and find more war coverage on Fox than on other channels. I have a great many friends over there, and like to keep up to date on the campaigns. Most of the other stuff, I just listen to for (choose your reason).

I'm not trying to attack liberalism. I'm neither Dem nor Rep. I'm actually all over the spectrum, politically. There's just been so many people insisting that I'm a misinformed idiot for watching Fox that a response was necessary in my opinion.

And, probably most importantly, my wife is out of town for two weeks and I haven't been laid in a while...mood's not that goody... :fluffle:

Thanks for your clarification, though...does change things...

Fox may spout some outlandish crap, but they call that commentary. Rather attempted (either known or unknown to him) to pass off intentionally falsified information. There's a difference.

There is no unbiased network, There is no unbiased person, and there is no unbiased organization.

The majority of facts have to be referenced from personal experience, because otherwise they might be slightly false in some way.

I say that we just fuck the news, and vote for whoever WE want, and shut up about it.

And yes, Fox News has admitted their bias on several occasions, as has Micheal Moore, CBS, and the Washington Times.

Let us compare the two issues here CBS' report and FOX's.
CBS:
Created a story that has been repeatedly discredited
Took many days to fully apologize and retract statement
Accused Bush of a serious crime
Used something with no proven basis in fact
FOX:
Created a story that has been repestedly discredited
Apologized and retracted promptly
Accused Kerry of getting a manicure and acting rather fruity
Is quite probably true in basis (Kerry gets manicures)

I'd have to say that FOX shiend rather well there, as opposed to CBS.

Hold on a sec. Did not George W. Bush receive favorable treatment to secure his place in the TANG? Did not he miss a mandatory physical and was therfore suspended from flight status? Does he not still have unexplained gaps in his Alabama service record? Has anyone who served with him in Aabama come forward and stated definitively that they saw him there? The Killian memos were just sauce--nothing substantively different from the story that's been in the news--and largely ignored--since 2000.

This is more of a question of bias than anything else. How can Fox News be considered a fair arbiter of the news involving John Kerry when their chief political correspondent is making what amount to fag jokes about one of the candidates?

Rupert has never bothered to make his news stations unbiased. He just tries to make as much money as possible, and does this by appealing to whichever side of politics does it better. Afterall, he owns plenty of left-wing papers in Australia.
