I am wondering what all of our opinions and predictions are about when and how the apocalypse will take place. The poll is going to be for when, and then you can explain how in your responding post.

Personally, I think its going end in 2012. but before that there will be 7 years of chaos and whatnot. hmmmmm.... 2012-7=2005... just about election time...

I dunnno. I could explain my evidence a lot further but i hat to waste your time. I just want to see what other people believe.

Peace Always,

Define apocalypse. End of all life on earth? End of humankind?

Regardless, I don't think either of those will happen by 2012.

to answer your question:
apocalypse as in the end of humankind. Interperet the rest they way you want. Just pick a time, and explain your reasoning.

When the sun a 'splodes - not! It'll be when the Sun engulfs the earth in another 5 billion years

Right when humanity lays down its arms and comes to peace and harmony with one another. It would be an amazingly ironic twist.

You believe human will still be restricted to the solar system in 5 billion years?

And God said "Thou shalt be more entertaining than that." Then God changed the channel. :D

In about a millenium, when humans discover the technology to make their biggest screw-up yet, the Universe will be destroyed.

I say 2012 for both the Mayan's and cerrtain Christian calanders point at it.

A better question is who cares? I mean it would be a shallow victory indeed when your prediction of doom proves to be corect, where others failed.

well, life on this planet is finished when one of two things happen: the sun explodes or when the planet cools enough for our core to solidify, thus getting rid of our magnetic field which protects us from some rather nasty solar particles.

our species might get wiped out if we don't learn to get along... i mean, at the rate we're going and all.

It's already happening. We as the human race are just still trying to figure out ways to slow it down.

Please, we haven't been attacked yet, and we don't have NEARLY enough technology to build massive robot-thingies called EVAs. I mean, Tokyo can't even sink under ground yet. We have PLENTY of time to go.

I voted 2012, but only because this is closest to the date range I have in mind.

To take the discussion further, it should be self-evident that to speak of a coming apocalypse as a moment of annihilation is meaningless, unless one is considering an extreme event such as global nuclear war, pandemic, and so on. Civilisations never end this way (in human experience, anyway), their decline and fall is always observed to occur over a period of years, more commonly decades.

Personally, I consider the period 2005-2020 to be a time when changes become apparent and then increasingly destructive, but the moment when a civilisation can be said to have actually ceased to exist is arbitrary. Certainly prior to the middle of the century, I would say.

We speak of armageddon as "total destruction" but it is not that.
Yes, millions and billions will die from all sorts of things but it will not mean there will be no humans left. It's not quite the same destruction as the end of dinosaurs.

The world is just fine. The world has been around for billions of years and I suspect it will be around for a very long time. What the question should be is when will the people be f*cked! ;)
