Should celebrities stop doing publicity stunts?

I am currently rather bored of the endless publicity stunts that celebrities do.

To quote a less extreme example first, many Brits may be acutely aware of the breakup between Jessie Wallace (to those of you not already aware, she plays foul-mouthed Kat Moon née Spencer in Eastenders) and her fiancé. Only a few weeks later, they get back together. Whilst it is not nice to have one's fiancé's friend selling personal information to the press, I cannot help feeling that it is just a publicity stunt.

To quote a really extreme example, there is also Britney Spears. I accept that she wants to keep her career up, but I disagree with the way, in which she chooses to do it. There was the bogus claim about being a virgin, the lesbian kiss with Madonna and the phoney marriage in Las Vegas to Jason Alexander. What's a woman with a fast-declining career to do if all this fails: - ah yes, stage yet another phoney marriage and then say that you were married spiritually in order to get publicity twice over. Britney, instead of doing all these really pointless stunts, next time just show us your boobs: - they are all anyone has ever cared about anyway. Please see a short online film about Britney entitled "You are a fucking moron 8" at http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/146550 .

If the celebrities stopped doing publicity stunts, then all we'd have to think about is- dun, dun, dun... POLITICS! We can't have people thinking for themselves for once.

I voted for try another way to boost her career, e.g. make music that's actually good. You see, the people who fill the charts may be in the most spotlight, but they don't last very long.

I used to like her and her music, but I just became so fed up of her doing all these silly stunts all the time and her music just went into rapid decline when the 3rd album came out.

The harder it is to get your attention the harder they're going to have to try to get it. The only thing you can do is pay more attention, but there is so much vieing for your attention that you can only pay so much, so they have to compete for it, and therefore try harder and harder to get your attention.

It's a trap. Get an axe.

You could hope to adjust the values (which could be argued that is what you are trying to do) but it's too late. P.T. Barnum sold us out. ("There's a sucker born every minute.") The more ways there are to get your attention the more things that have to vie for it. The more things that have to vie for your attention the more they have to do to get it. Quality is meaningless, quantity is everything. Already you have an example of the predominant thinking, if she's making money then it's all okay. It's quicksand, the more you kick the more they drag you down.

But there's a branch. You can step off the rails. Everyone buys it...but you don't have to. What if you didn't? You don't have to buy it. Don't buy it. Let them have everyone elses dollar, everyone elses attention. Covet quality and shun quantity.

My soap box is giving me splinters.....

I think it is a shame that our media have to be so stupid in reacting to Britney's publicity stunts. I wish they would just ignore them. BRITNEY, JUST SHOW US YOUR BOOBS! WE DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR LESBIAN KISS WITH MADONNA, OR YOUR PHONEY LAS VEGAS WEDDING!

Just wait 15 years. On a COPS episode, we'll see the 5-0 respond to a domestic disturbance at a trailer park. Out of the trailer will come Britney. As they drag her hubby's ass away, he'll yell "How could you do this to me?". Bruised and crying she'll screetch "I love you honey, you need help." The camera will have a closeup of her makeup running, and her beer gut.
