Personally, I find there to be a difference between "insane" and "devious in their sanity." One with a clear connection to reality, but who conciously chooses to live outside of the commonly accepted version of the real world are just devious. They can therefore use a "consisten illogic" that works well enough to function in society and allows them to play many text-based games (such as the Hitch-Hiker's Guide games) that normies cannot.
The flat-out crazy are just "see no evil, hear no evil, but I can already speak of all the evil that's out there that only I know everything about."

Actually, there was this country in my old region (Axis of Absurdity) that is known as The Death-Defying Territories of Crazed Stuntmen. Picture the cast of MTV's "jackass" operating a government.
