Especially Bill 'O Reilly fans, the other day, Bill O' Reilly had John Stewart on his show and said to him, all the people that watch your show are dopeaddicts and slackers. However a poll recently came out and said that the majority of John Stewart watchers were smarter and better informed than those who watch Bill O' Reilly, what does this show?

1. Democrats are smarter than Republicans (Fox obviously being Republican and Stewart being very liberal)

2. Bill O'Reily is a dumbass and no one should ever watch fox news again. Preferable watch CNN or something that doesnt lean one way or the other.

and 3. The Daily show covers more happenings than real news stations, because they dont have to worry about political correctness and that BS.

Here's the transcript:

http://www.infoshop.org/inews/stories.php?story=04/09/22/5525245

This may be the most insulting interview ever. 87% of people who watch the Daily Show are intoxicated when they watch it? Where does O'Reilly get this stuff. "you've got stoned slackers watching your dopey show every night." I have only read the first few sentences and I'm appalled.

Where does Bill O'Reilly get the gall to question Stewart's quality of journalism? He claims to be fake news and manages to inform people better and maintain a higher level of journalism than O'Reilly

But I don't think Jon Stewart has ever crippled the French economy single-handedly though. :D

If there is one thing that discussions in this forum has led me to believe its that everyone has their own opinion on how the media is biasied and that nothing I could say would swing anyone either way. I think that a wide variety of people watch both the Daily Show and the Factor. But what do i know I'm not the one who polls people and don't really believe most polls anyways.

The whole FoxNews is a big mystery for me. How it's not illegal to insult everyone all the time without any reasons. How they manage to lie as much as they do. You can tell what ever you want in NS but FoxNews is different. And how anyone is able to watch that crap day after day. It's one of those things which I just can't understand no matter what.

Of course, the best thing about the inverview is that Jon Stewart completely takes over the conversation. O'Reilly keeps noticing after a while and trying to get back on whatever subject he wants, but Stewart pretty much keeps the interview hijacked - it's great fun.

Fox won the ability to lie in a court case. Now they are using as much as they can get away with.
The reason was a woman (reporter) didn't want to say a lie in her report because she was the one who interviewed someone. She knew it was a lie. But Fox said say it or fired.
She sued after standing by her convictions. She lost and Fox has lied ever since.

Bill O'Reilly has always made up numbers; this isn't anything new. I'm just glad to general public is gradually getting wise to his pseudo-journalistic crap.

Now now, let's be fair. While we would like to say that the mainstream media news caters to the right-wing, the only thing we can conclusively conclude from that poll is that the mainstream news media caters to idiots, with Republicanism being incidental. Now, with Bush being the Republican candidate, we should also be able to conclude that the Republican party caters to idiots too*.

note - this does not mean that all Republicans are idiots, merely that their recruitment efforts are aimed primarily at idiots.

The poll that you are talking about didn't say people who watch Stewart are smarter than people who watch O'Reilly. The poll said that the average Stewart watcher is smarter than the average person who doesn't watch Stewart. Therefore, since it did not directly compare Stewart's audience and O'Reilly's audience, O'Reilly could still have a smarter, more informed audience than Stewart, however Stewart's audience isn't composed of pothead slackers as O'Reilly chooses to believe.

O'Reilly is a bonehead. I can't watch his show because he never lets his guests get a word in. But it certainly does not poison me against Fox News. Hannity and Combes is fun to watch. And besides, CNN has that asshat Larry King.

Whether you call it Fox or Sky, Rupert Murdoch's news products follow the same formula: Scream loud enough & insult often enough, & people will WATCH.

Most news is now so sanitized, bland, & lacking in hard facts that you really can't call it news. I just about doze off watching CNN. I CANNOT watch Fox. I find it insulting to the seed of intelligence that the much-maligned American public (private) schools planted in me & even more-maligned university nurtured.

The handwriting was on the wall after the Vietnam war. Educated protesters ended the war. When America allowed the ventriloquist dummy known as Ronald Reagan into office, the term "cultural elitism" oozed its way into our national parlance. The message since has been simple: Keep 'em stupid & divided so we can do what we want. Hence, Joe Blow in B.F.E., Arkansas will vote based on his abortion opinion rather than on the fact that his son died in Iraq.

Fox is nothing more than the mouthpiece of the Emperor with no clothes.

Oh, by the way...I listen to the BBC & watch Newsworld International (a product of the CBC.) Thank you UK & Canada!

No, I'm pointing out the fact that the poll that is being talked about says absolutely nothing about O'Reilly veiwers. O'Reilly viewers could be smarter, the could be dumber, they could be about the same. You can't tell from the poll. All the poll says is the average person who watches Stewart is smarter than the average person who doesn't watch Stewart.

I find it quite amusing (or actually very disturbing) that during the first weeks of the Iraq war (the latest) after several false news BBC journalists said few times: "FoxNews have said:"blaablaa" but we will wait for further information as FoxNews sources have proven wrong so many times before"
At least BBC did correct the news when they got more information. I never saw FoxNews correcting their false claims.

I'm not sure if FoxNews is biased by choice. I don't really think that they all got together one day and said "LET'S SPEW OUT REPUBLICAN PROPAGANDA LOL!!!1" My thoughts are that FoxNews started up as a regular news channel, then more Republicans started watching it, so they appealed to their demographic more by hiring that asshat Bill O'Reilly. Lying, splotchy bully.
I find that CNN is biased too. As badly as Fox News. But not partisan biased. I mean America biased. They always talk about "THE WAR FOR IRAQ" and other such inane pro-USA slogans. It makes me sick.

John Stewart rules.

I can't tell you how much it makes me giggle that you people are devoting so much time to this argument.

Are you sitting down? I have something to tell you. Now, try not to take this too hard, because I know it might seem a shock at first, and your uber-serious natures may take a bit of time to let it sink in....

The whole "pot smoking slackers" bit?

It.....was......a......joke.....

Stewart knew it, O'Reilly knew it. O'Reilly is scheduled to be on the Daily Show soon, as well. It was a lighthearted dig at Comedy central.

It.....was.....a......joke.....

Take a deep breath, now, exhale.

I think it shows balls for anyone to go on O'Reilly, or for O'Reilly to go on the Daily Show. I like both Stewart and O'Reilly. See? It's true...humans and animals CAN live in harmony.....

It just amazes me how seriously people take this crap.

I would like to see more on this case. sorry if you posted it already, but I couldn't keep reading after this post. I must say though, y'all are great at making people feel welcomed at this forum! You can't know how good it is too see topic after topic with people bashing the President, your party, your beliefs, your candidate for president, your favorite news channel, and saying that republicans are stupid. Once again bravo on your manners!
