I'm Incredibally Nervous

We don the role of armchair politicians every day in here, right? Well now, I'll simulate it in real life. I'm going to a Student Congress meet at Yale University tommarow, as part of the National Forensics League. Or is it the National Catholic Forensics League. Oh, big deal! I'm registered in them both.
Anyhow, I feel very nervous about this. I hope I can do it. After all, this does require a fair amount of schmoozing and ass kissing, which I am very bad at.

You could ask Kybernetia for advice about the ass kissing part. He's realy good at it.

Seriously that would suck ass I agree. But I would be bold and just be real. Who knows maybe all the hype about reality tv might dawn upon people (inlcuding those politicians) for real. Oh well i'll dare to dream I guess lol

Yes, dream big. But make sure you keep a firm grip on reality! :)

I don't think he is. He just has different opinions than most.

I've used it in the past. A well placed "whatever" can actually be quite effective, if used properly. I didn't, but that's partly because there is no audio, so no one can hear my voice.

Well, as long as you do not suggest nuking Iraq, Iran, North or South Korea, I'm sure you'll be fine. ;)

Don't worry, none of the resolutions even have anything to do with that. Just things like condemning the EU, privatizing Social Security, and other conservative stuff :). Of course, I will not hesitate to argue in negation of these bills should it be convinient for me. After all, this is a competition.

LOL, condemning the EU, no doubt for emulating the protectionist trade policies of the US. ;)

Watch your butt if you go wondering around New Haven. Yale- Nice school, shitty location.

Thanks. I'll do that. I heard that the area immediatly around the school should be nice, though. It's like the Cleveland Clinic. It is world renowed, but located in the middle of the Cleveland slums.

Dude the campus itself, the area around the dorms, all of it is bad. Pretty much the central grassy area is the only clean place in that town. You go 3-5 blocks in either direction away from it... well, you'll see.

Actually, it's for your planned European Army, which, as the resolution states, will disrupt security in Eastern Europe, and possibly the Middle East and Russia, and would also kill NATO. I personally love the idea of a common military, but I would argue for the resolution in a heartbeat.

Great. I was actually offered the chance to sleep in the dorms. I refused. For one, I'm going tommarow night, and that's party night. But hey, if it was good enough for two rich dudes down in Florida tonight, it's good enough for me, as I should have considerably lower standards.

LOL like I said, very good school, very shitty area. Beleive it or not, Columbia in Upper West Side Manhattan just south of Harlem, is actually a lot safer and a lot nicer than the whole of New Haven.

I know. I've been to Harlem recently. They cleaned it up quite a bit in the past ten years. It's still dangerous to walk the streets alone at night, but that's just common sense not to do. It is otherwise a fine neighborhood. It is the South Bronx that has become New York's hellhole, even if Yankee Stadium is there.

Well, I came back from Yale. It was a fun trip. I didn't break out of prelims, but I still have a few more years to go.

I think you are more familiar with that due to you sexual orientation.

Anyway: since I´m not very popular I don´t seem to be so good at it. I`m actualy in a minority position in Europe - with my support for the US. I´m not at all mainstream. So, obviously the argument is just ridiculous.

I advocate my own position. And that is that the Middle East is the most dangerous region of the world and that the new threats of totalitarian ideologies are coming from this region.
The two biggest threats for Europe - Nazi-Germany and the USSR were both successfully eliminated by the US. And I´m convinced that the US will do the job in the Middle East as well.
We in Europe should just lay back - if we don´t want to participate - and let the US and Israel do the job.

That's what I've been trying to say all along. But ass kissing to these guys is the same as thinking differently.

None of it was too bad. There was this one ghetto area by the harbor, but I never really went far from the campus. However, I was told there that New Haven was the most liberal city in America, and boy did it show. Kids were on the sidewalks raising funds for some anti-Bush group. I saw one sticker advocating an end to the war on drugs. It makes me wonder what New Haven's conservative counterpart is.
