The slow decline of Caboose's intellect

*NOTE* This thread pertains to the popular web series Red Vs. Blue (www.redvsblue.com). If you have not seen Red Vs. Blue, then get the hell over to that web-site and start downloading!

Okay, for those familiar with Red Vs. Blue, Caboose's stupidity is legendary. He's one of the most popular characters on the show and his I.Q. is that of a ripe tomato. I'm not exagerating, his I.Q. is actually that of a ripe tomato. There have been studies! Anyway, when he was first written into the show (I believe in the third episode) he wasn't supposed to be the stupid one. Originaly he was just a complement to Donut, a character who was brought into the series early on with the sole purpose of being in the Pink Armor, a joke that appeared later on. Yet the creators thought they needed to balance it out once Donut appeared (Reds get a vehicle, Blues get a vehicle, Reds get a rookie, so the Blues have to get a rookie, too) so they just threw in Caboose.

In Caboose's early appearances he seemed like little more than a catalyst to get Church mad. Chauvinistic remarks against women, moronic observances about vehicle weaponry, giving Donut the flag, etc. Basically, just someone for Church to yell at.

But somewhere along the lines the creators got this brilliant idea: Let's make him an idiot!

So, starting with his comments in the tank ("Why are there six pedals if there are only four directions?") his intelligence just begins a downward spiral. It actually seems to go slowly at first, pressing the wrong buttons in the tank and what-not. But then you get the conversations with Church's ghost ("That guy Tex is really a robot, and you're his boyfriend. So that makes you......a gay robot.") and his amazingly views on visibility (He just doesn't know what the word means.). Eventually, you get to the point where basic survival is in question ("Look Caboose, just stay here and try not to swallow your tounge or something.") and the unique concepts of 'us' and 'them' begin to get confused (Like watching his own base when told to look out for enemy activity).

It just makes you wonder, if Caboose originally wasn't the dumb one, and he became the dumb one, what do you think will happen to the rest of the cast?

I really think they should quit writing other characters in. Sheila suddenly has a personality? A medic shows up... It's just getting too much

One funny medic bit:
Their discussing that the medic should pick up a gun and fight
"But I'm a pacifist."
"The thing where they put in baby's mouths so they go to sleep?"
"No that's a pedophile."

I just don't think they should have turned O'Malley into such a caricature. From the Season 1 finale through the first couple episodes of Season 2, he was actually kind of creepy in an awesome sort of way, and that lent itself well to deadpan humor. By the end of Season 2, he was just kind of a mockery of himself.

But Doc lettered in track in High School! How can you not love him?

Actually, me and a friend were just talking about the progression of Caboose. Another thing we noticed was how Donut goes from a normalish guy to someone who is very childish. Guess that pink armor changes a man...

Purple is the color of royalty and homosexuals.

No, purple is the color of roman senators and old kings. It's also the color of bisexuals. A rainbow is the sign of homosexuals.

And the medic was purple because he was in between red and blue. Hey, look, I brought that back on topic.

I noticed that. Also, his is a sudden and dramatic change. Caboose slowly dwindles down, but Donut just makes this sudden lump from one episode to the other

So, who thinks Grif and Simmons are in love with each other? Like Tucker says, they just keep bickering like an old married couple.
