French < American

Okay, this is weird for me to say this, but in one sense, the French really are less than Americans--in body mass.

I hate to get on a rant on about France or a rant on about obeisity, but I just had to read some articles for a college class and they were about obeisity. The article talked about how French people are notoriously lean. It's funny too, because my mom's side of the family, the side I take after physically, is the side of the family I get my French-ness from...and I'm tall and skinny, just like my mom, and her entire family...

We get it!! WE'RE FAT!!! I'm a 400 lb man with a cathador. It's just simply not true of ALL the citizens. Yes I do realize by statistics we are the fattest nation, but it's like beating a dead horse.

Do I sense this is topic being a bit egotistical????

Anyways, AUstralia unfortunately is being tagged as obese and is actually quite an important issue among many about what we can do to fix it.

It's excersise.

Not overeating (well some people maybe).

People get up, sit in a car, sit in an office, sit in a lunch room, sit in an office and then sit in a car followed by sitting infront of a TV at night.

If everyone - like myself - went for a walk, jog or excersise somewhere between all the sitting they would loose lbs (kgs) in no time!

Saying what I just said - I am staying in this lunchtime as it is really raining outside!!

But then I have been working outside all morning to make up for it!

And yes I feel more healthy as a result :)

I won't deny that there are a lot of fat Americans, I know quite a few myself, but I think that in some cases the French are unusually skinny. Now, I make my observations based on the summer Olympics, just to clear that part up. If you take, for example, the French girls gymnasts and put them right beside an American girls gymnast the French girl would probably look slimmer. Even though the American gymnast probably isn't fat at all. Because when I was watching the Olympics, most noticable in gymnastics because of the uniforms, the French seem just naturally slimmer, with a different bone structure. Whereas the American gymnasts were blockier and more muscular. It is the same with those tiny, skinny, Asian gymnasts. They have a different body structure.

1) I am American...with French ethnicity and French background. (Yes, I've seen skinny Americans, I am one...but I'm also French...)

2) America is not the fattest nation.

3) France is leaner than America. I'm not saying that there aren't fat French and I'm not saying there aren't skinny Americans. I'm saying that the average French is more slender than the average American.

Only 9% of them have a weight problem - and I don't think our country's physed programs are doing anything else to curtail our massive weight problem

Yea, and something like 59% of American adults between the ages of 21 and 55 are medically obeise. I believe at least 5% are morbidly obeise (which means life threatening obeisity). I'm not too sure about the second percentage though.

Italian gurlz pretty! and fit! (especially one or two in my classes!) :D

(forgive the above adolescent outburst of this teenage boy)

Ya, the Italians are pretty fit seeing how they do a lot more walking to get from place to place than we Americans (who are lazy and just drive) - plus their meal portions aren't as outrageously huge and unhealthy

When I was in Germany this summer (for 2 weeks), I didn't see a single obese person. Not one. IMO, it's because of 2 reasons: diet and exercise (imagine that! :p ) The food that is generally eaten is much healthier, and they walk around much more. It's as easy as that....stop eating junk food and walk instead of driving sometimes.

How about "CONSUME FEWER CALORIES THAN YOU BURN"?

For some people, consuming fewer than burning means almost not eating at all. ;)

Burn as much as you consume or more if you want to actually loose weight. Eat healthier also. It's not necessarily the quantity that matters, but the quality. There is not much food in a Big Mac meal (not that big of a meal I mean), but most of it is junk.

In Canada, well at least in Quebec, people tend to excuse themselves for eating more rich (read richer in fat) meals because of the winter. However, with today's technology and way of life, winter is not really different from any season since we, not like a century or so ago, do NOT have to ACTUALLY bear the winter temperatures.

Anorexia Nervosa will, indeed, cure obesity... unfortunately, it's a deadly disease. How about decrease caloric intake and increase activity... that always works too.

Increase activity? Bah.

Mine is better. You don't actually have to do anything at all. Literally.
