Which makes me extra special. Apparantly, left-handed people make up like 1% of the world's population. You know why people shake with their right hand? They give up their good hand so they can't pull a sword or gun on the other person...unless they're left handed...

Remind me never to shake hands with you... ;)
odd story: i was born left handed, but broke my left wrist and arm in an accident when i was about 7. it was in a cast for almost a year, and in the mean time i became a righty...i learned to write with my right hand, i bat righty, and i use my right hand as my "primary" when reaching or manipulating object. however, i still do cartwheels left handed, i am left-footed (when kicking, etc), and for some reason i reverse which hand i use to hold the knife and which to hold the fork.

according to my much-traveled uncle, in India there is a slightly more gross origin; they don't have toilet paper, so when you go into the field to do your business you take a cup of water and...well, your hand. the tradition is that you use your left for, erm, cleaning up yourself, and thus will only shake with the right because it would be really gross to great somebody with your left hand.
but that's hear-say, and he might just have made it up so that i could gross my mom out with scatological humor.

LEFTIES ARE EVIL!!!!! *cough*
Err yeah, I'm right handed, but my brother is left handed, and he is enough reason for me to think lefties are evil.
Until he reached 12 years old an became ambidexterous, but heh.

Left is Right.
I'm of the left=evil opinion too. My brother is left handed, my most hated teacher is left handed, my arch nemisis is left handed... Its not a sure-fire way, but it does often give you a clue.
What I'd heard about the left-right handed thing is that when people fought, sword and shield, you had to have the shield on the left to protect your heart. If you were lefthanded, and fought with your right, you'd be more likely to die. If you held the shield with your right, you're more likely to get stabbed in the heart.

I'm a lefty at writing and a righty at throwing things.
this is probably related to my father telling me at the age of four that lefty was "wrong."
I could have been so damn cool! :headbang:
Left handed, and proud of it!
Crazily enough, alot of the important men in my mother's side of the family were lefties (now, dont take that the wrong way, rabid dogs. women still outnumber us and have the power on her side;)). Now THAT is something to take pride in!
Interesting note: Most lefties tend to actually be wiser than most right handers ^_^

Well, since according to some on this forum, being liberal makes me a lefty(ist), and therefore the spawn of Satan, I answered the poll with "I use my tail."
But I'm right-handed, although I can teach myself to do certain activities--usually work-related--equally well with either hand.
Lefty and a leftist, apparently.

Actually, to say I'm left-handed isn't entirely true...
This is weird. I bat left handed, but golf right handed. I am ambedextirious at frisbee. More accurate with my right hand but more powerful with left hand (oddly enough...)
I've heard things like left handed people are more apt to be good at math and logic than right handed people (because a different side of your brain is dominant based on what hand you use), and I've also seen lists of left handed people, including people like Alexander the Great, Plato, Jay Leno, Babe Ruth, and a few others. Although, I don't understand how they would know what hand people like Plato used...that was forever and a day ago...and dominant hand probably isn't historically significant.
thats easy XD
we lefties throughout history passed down from generation to generation who was of our Left Hand ways:P

There are also tons of artists and historical figures, too! Man, we got Joan of Arc.. Always knew da Vinci was a lefty, but kept hearing rightist propoganda that he was ambidexterious... thank goodness the one truth prevailed!
Look at the overwhelming number of right handers... theres bound to be quite a few dictators and murderers there as well;)

You know, that list is pretty heavy when you think about proportions. If approximately 1% (or whatever the percent is) of the world is left handed, but the list of significant left handed people is that long...it means a higher percentage of left handed people have had a significant impact on the world..
you mean the peons and lazy people who dont get off their butt to vote?

Yay for Lefties
I'm a lefty. Leftys do tend to be smarter and more imaginative than righties. Statistics also show we don't live as long. Sigh. Luckily men over 6'0" live longer than men under 6'0", so I guess it balances out.
ya know, i wonder how dated that "1% of the population" statistic on lefties is...
methinks its time for a new census;) something tells me that in todays world, the number of lefties would be Much higher than the previous 1%...
I am sinister.

In the middle ages lefties were considered evil. Thats because in castles, the staircases were designed so that righthanded knights could fight on the way down a circular staircaise, with the central pillar as cover. Lefties of course, could do the same going up.
