NO MORE "ASK A..." THREADS.

Myrth

Joke's old now, and they're degenerating into spam.
I'm going to leave the current ones alone, but any new 'Ask a ...' threads that appear will be locked.

When the number of threads of type X is greater than the average number of posts in those threads, it's hard to dispute that the trend is going to far....

I take pride in being only the second person to make an "Ask a XXX" thread, the bandwagon was barely moving when I hopped on!

Hey Myrth, we'd you block mine right away. It wasn't a joke and at least it isn't my rant zone for saying Bush is an idiot.

Oh, and I have not posted the "ask a Swede" thread yet! Well, I suppose we could run it here, any questions?:P

Does that include the occasional "Ask The squatch" threads, I make every so often?

No, but I *really* wouldn't recommend making one anytime soon.

Good move.

If anything, more duplicate/knockoff threads of the same topic should be locked! :)

What was the original, anyway?
Klonor
30-09-2004, 06:36
The original was "Ask a Later Day Saint!" and I made the first spin-off (Ask a Jew!)

After that there were some other good ones (Based on nationality, religion, and personal history) but then there appeared the moronic and idiotic ones that made this thread a valuable commodity.

"Ask the squatch" is an ancient and honorable tradition. We certainly wouldn't want it to get confused with the current "Ask a..." trend.

Like my one about going to bed that's going to be bumped in a while when I answer one of the questions?

So, you're going to lock those but not the billions of reincarnations of the thousands of Bush vs Kerry, Bush Sucks, Bush is Great, Kerry is an Asshole, Kerry is God, Republicans Suck, Republicans Rule, Democrats are Morons, Democrats are Awesome, Abortion is Wrong, God is Right etc etc...and you know what I'm talking about!! I've found that those have more reincarnations than the "Ask a..." thread set.

Those are new, the others aren't. Plus it's always the same shit over and over and over...

I don't know if this is the best place for such a discussion, but I tend to agree with Kryozerkia's comments above.

Perhaps forum posters should be encouraged a little more to look for existing threads on a topic they want to discuss, rather than creating new ones all the time.

Another example was the recent spate of "What religion are you?" polls (I even created one myself as a pisstake, so I guess I'm not in an ideal position to complain...but still...)

Anyway, these are just suggestions, no criticism intended. ;)

Yeah, and I would have liked to do an "Ask a Witch/Pagan" thread. I like answering questions about my religion and assuring people that "The Craft" wasn't at all a realistic representation of the modern witch, or that we DON'T worship Satan.... Ah, well.

Thank whatever gods you please, those threads were getting annoying as hell... Meh, I guess I just wanted to say thanks to Myrth unlike oh so many of you and go back to trawling through all of the Kerry vs. Bush threads looking for something a bit more interesting.

Righto, soz, they are kinda fun though, I think it's interesting looking at different people's views, even more interesting when they embody themselves with a whole demographic, I'm still waiting for someone to disagree with me lol, but I see what you mean by there being to many. Removes thoughts of putting "Ask a person thread" or heres a risky one "Ask a hetrosexual white male"

I've enjoyed asking people stuff. I still have questions for some groups that haven't had a platform yet.

I'm rooting for
ask a black woman
ask a sub-saharan african
ask a redneck
ask a lesbian with a PhD in a natural science subject
ask a lawyer, for free
ask your grandma

I agree there. Also, the numerous religion based threads are more annoying than the latest fad. They open a Pandora's box.

And what of the "Paradise Club" thread series?

So, could the mods reconsider by looking at the rest of the general forum?

as a critical and non-biased bystander, i would like to say that myrth is doing his job, but hes overdoing. Not only does he delete flamers, trollers, etc... (which is good, i guess) but he also invades into spam (which is an NS tradition) and for no reason he deletes threads that he finds uninteresting and unNSlike.

this reminds me of some kind of twisted dictatorship, it almost makes me miss Hack and Neut... at least those guys you could reason with, myrth is just intolerable.

just my small, unbiased, unoffensive 2 cents.
