You know whats kind of funny? It is mean, but still kind of funny.

This 1st grade teacher awards :) stickers to good kids bad kids get :( stickers but you know what the kids that are just OK get? NOTHING!!!!
and this teacher has a habit of saying, "You kids were good today so you get :) stickers, the rest of you were just OK so you get NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exactly like that.

Explain this
Good :)
OK
Bad :(

So apparently if you can't be good, but want a sticker you need to be bad all day, whats the influence to get an OK if you mess up on good???

This teacher is evil however she is constantly causing the 1st graders to cry, or so I am told.

That is kinda mean.

In psychology last week we were watching a video of this teacher who a long time ago was trying to explain how bad racism is to a bunch of 6 year old kids that had never met a black person in their lives so she told them all that any kid with blue eyes was superior to anyone with green or brown eyes and anyone with brown or green eyes had to stay in at break whilst the kids with blue eyes got to go and play out and other stuff like that so the blue eyed kids ended up bullying the the other kids and the other kids were in tears because the teacher was really mean to them all day, Teachers can be really cruel sometimes

nope, she's still teaching today, although it's now older kids but she still does the same thing with them and they still get upset, it's all to do with taking on roles

You'd say that there are more efficient ways to teach kids about discrimination then that, whithout upsetting them. And if a teacher is too stupid to come up with them then I doubt they are fit to teach.

Anyways, maybe the kids should gangrape her to teach her all about rape. And hey, it's not that she can object, is it? After all, it's all about taking on roles!

I hardly think you can compare discriminating agianst people to tech them about discrimination to raping people to teach them about rape.

Maybe not in magnitude but certainly in principle.

in the psychology of the thing, yes you can. they are completely relatable in action to reason.

I remember that video, although in the one I saw the only thing that the teacher did for the 'priviladged' kids were to let them go to recess early and have the better crayons or something.

I think everybody is missing the point here. That video wasn't made to teach kids about discrimination, but to teach psych students about how discrimination works and how people behave when discriminated. By introducing a differentiating characteristic (of which the kids were previously unaware) and granting privileges to a certain group, you were supposed to observe what happened.

Maybe it's a cruel thing to do to children, use them in a psych experiment like that, but the results are quite interesting.

discrimination is easy to explain without examples, especially to psych students who should be odl enough to comprehend it, and this is without screwing up a bunch of kids

This is true. I've seen the video, and it was a controlled experiment about how discrimination works. The children were told about the experiment afterward and taught, once again, that they were all equal regardless of eye color. It may seem cruel, but it didn't vioate any of the ethics of the time period that it took place, and I highly doubt the children were severly damaged from the short time they were observed.

well actually the teacher did originally use it to teach the kids about discrimination. It's just psychologists saw it as a good example of how easily people take on a role that they're randomly given, the blue eyed kids bullied the other kids, their friends, simply because they'd been told that they're superior, whereas the brown/green eyed kids allowed themselves to be bullied and became really introverted just because they'd been given the inferior role

You guys are right with the fact that that is cruel. i hate teachers that are like that. :sniper: How can the staff allow that. so basically if you are good you get a reward for your behavior but if you are bad you till get an award, and if you do what you are told but not to your best abilities there is no award for that. What is wrong with this world. I think that the students should have a say on what teachers they want to have and what teachers they don't. i mean the kids spend more time with them then anyone else. :mp5: That is just crazy. Now I want to start an arguement. :gundge:

the teachers really need to come up with something better to do than torment children. I wonder if they have considered the long term effects of this? Surely this has some really bad effects on some of the childrens self esteem ect

I don't terribly approve of getting a "reward" for bad behavior myself. More a punishment. Like a badge that gives you an electric shock. Anyway, if you want to go down the whole "equal" thing, you end up with my primary school. Giving rewards to the idiots because they didn't get anything else. It really de-motivated me, I'll tell you. I DO feel for people who are only just not good enough-but I don't see how you can make it better.

I saw that too. Then all of the kids in the class came back like 15 years later and saw the video themselves...
