If I am not mistaken, the last movie he made was Robin hood men in tights... which is awesome.

Don't think of SBII as a sequal... its more like VH1's "I love the 90's" to "I love the 80s"

Spaceballs was a spoof on practically every sci-fi from the 70-s and early 80s.

Spaceballs 2 will (should) be a spoof on practically every sci-fi from the 90s and early 2000s.

it should be every bit as good, if not better.

If he's smart, he'll also spoof how crappy the new Star Wars movies are compared to the originals.

Men in Tights was pretty good, but nothing compared to Young Frankenstein, History of the World Part I, Blazing Saddles and the original Spaceballs.

I've always wanted to see a History of the World Part II.

Actually, the last movie he directed was Dracula, Dead and Loving It ... which, no pun intended, sucked.

As for Spaceballs 2, I'll hope for the best, but expect the worst.

And if you haven't seen Silent Movie, I'd highly recommend it.

Well, given that most of the stuff that's come out in the sci-fi genre since Spaceballs is so bad as to be self-parodying (honestly, can anyone think of a sci-fi movie since 1986 that could compare with the first two Alien films, 2001, or the Star Wars sagas? Gattaca or the original Matrix maybe, but you have to admit, it's a pretty thin herd), I'm not really sure whether he can get enough material. Spaceballs was awesome. I'd hate to see it suffer from crappy-sequel syndrome.

And for the record, the funniest line in Blazing Saddles was right before that:

"Hey boys, look what I've found!"
"Where are all the white women?"

Followed closely by:

"How do we drive out the townsfolk?"
". . .I know! We could kill the firstborn child of every townsperson."
"Hmm. . .too Jewish."

Not to mention the fact that by now, anything worth parodying from The Matrix has already been done many times.

I guess Yogurt was right, this will be Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.

What about "Dark City" and "The Cube"? Those were pretty good too. "12 Monkeys" wasn't bad, especially the original French short film. "Ghost in the Shell" and "Tetsuo" (Ironman) are also very good, although Tetsuo is quite weird, and being Japanese never got a good showing.

"Moebius" is also very good, and one of the best Latinamerican efforts in the genre.

So, there has been good sci-fi, but if you mean just pop-sci-fi, then yeah, most of it has been crap.
