Where did the term "Masshole" originate from?

It was created by people from the lesser New England states such as New Hampshire or Rhode Island as a derogatory term for people from the state of Massachusetts. It was a failed attempt at an insult by people jealous that their state did not reach the glory of the great state of Massachusetts.

It's not that we are full of ourselves; it's that we understand our inherent superiority.

For questions relevant to that vast majority of New England that lay outside the People's Republic of Cambridge, I'm here to offer the perspective of the Constitution State. (That's Connecticut for you poor uneducated masses.)

That term originiated because Michael Dukakis didn't know how to run a state government.
