David Horowitz, a former radical leftist turned realist, has a website that exposes how the radical left and militant Islam are working hand in hand at our nation's universities. Unless you're a totally closed-minded leftist, take a look at http://www.frontpagemag.com/

*coughhackcough* excuse me? Since when is 35 "middle age"? LOL. Maybe to kids it might be , however in the grand scheme of things, 35 is still quite young :)

By biblical definition, 35 is exactly middle age. Of course I keep telling myself that this is the 21st century and life is much longer now.

The top story on this site is that in the late 19th century, a bunch of people who hated individualism called themselves "Progressive", and therefore anyone who today calls themselves "Progressive" is part of a broad and contradictory communitarian left.

I find it odd that an article championing individualism, or at least decrying detractors of individualism, should complain about broad churches and contradictory viewpoints. Surely individualism is all about those who make up the community being able to contradict each other?

That aside, I'd better tell my boss. As a self-made man and MD of a reasonably sized company, he might want to know that his company name makes him a dubious lefty.

I've been there before, looked around before, and found Horowitz guilty of the most horrible crime a pundit can be guilty of. He's boring.

It's not surprising that he's got a decidedly one-sided view of events--he's a pundit, after all, and that's what pundits do, open up a narrow point of view and try to cram the entire universe into those terms. But the best pundits are at least entertaining whenthey do it. Even Ann Coulter. There's a sort of morbid fascination in wondering how she'll top herself.

But Horowitz is predictable, and painfully so, and that makes him boring. There's no intellectual rigor in destroying his arguments--he has none to destroy. He has rantings, diatribes against imagined slights, and that's about all.

Horowitz was indeed a leftist in his early days... Both his parants were communists and his political "education" began while he was in elementary school. During the 50's through the early 70's he was a part of the radical left movement yet several events cause his "converting" to conservative points of view.

"By the early Seventies, the antiwar movement had collapsed, which opened his eyes to its self-interested character, but the Communist version of the Cold War was becoming a part of our "national myth." It was a myth that it cost him dearly to stop believing in. One of his early political memories was of demonstrating against the executions of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for espionage in 1953, and it marked an epoch in his conversion from his leftist beliefs when he learned in the late Seventies, to his great shock and amazement, that the couple were in fact guilty. The attitude of surprise is characteristic. It can also be seen in his reaction to the most important event in his conversion, the murder of a friend by Huey Newton and the Black Panthers. Again and again we see him reeling from the impact of learning that Newton or George Jackson or Elaine Brown was not an innocent idealist framed by the police but guilty, in fact, of far more than any of them was ever charged with, or that those who knew of their guilt continued publicly to defend them"

In other words, Horowitz hasn't been a "leftist" in over 30 years. Exactly how much insight can he purport to offer on the modern left of today (assuming he had any to offer to begin with)?

It's true, sadly - I've confirmed this w/other websites/groups

WTF??? A genuine leftist does not favor any religion or fundamentalism over other groups . . . WTF ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING! This is absolutely counter-intuitive.

(and I dont want to know what groups are cooperating w/the extreme right)

Damn kids just don't understand that a good woman is like a fine wine, and improves with age.
